SOURCE: Freezer and Fridge side not cooling

Sounds like your Defrost heater is burned up. It is located in the back of the freezer compartment behind the lower cover. Look at the base of the condensor. Two screws hold the heater and two wire connectors. The heater is in a glass tube. Measure continuity from one end to the other, you should see a few ohms. if it is open, your heater is definitely burned. I got a good deal on a replacement heater on Ebay. I think it was $17 including shipping. The heater being bad will cause major frost buildup in the back of the freezer and stop the Ice maker from working and damage food. Be sure to thorougly dry the freezer compartment prior to putting it back in operation. If too much moisture is present, the new heater will evaporate the moisture into the Ice dispensoer motor and solenoid that swtiches from crushed to solid ice. Hope this helps. it has nothing to do with your problem, but please Check out my website www.playstationclinic.com

SOURCE: GE PCG23NHMF side by side fridge freezer - stopped cooling

Although this machine is supposed to be frost-free (i.e. automatic defrost), there was a build up of frost. We manually defrosted the machine, then restarted it - the noise has stopped and the freezer and fridge are now working. However, this may be a temporary solution.

SOURCE: freezer cool fridge not

Hi, With the information you supplied i'm going to assume there is an ice build up at the rear of the freezer. Your problem is going to be with your defrost system. I will also assume you have the ability to repair this yourself. This is going to be one of three problems with your refridgerator, 1st thing to do is remove shelfs and panel in the back of the freezer...you should see ice build up on the evaporator...don't worry get a hair dryer and melt the ice. Next locate the wires for the heater...using a multi meter test the heater for condinuity...if the heater is bad replace it, If the heater is good replace the defrost thermostat..the stat normally is a barrel looking part clipped onto the evaporator pipe. The last possible problem could be the evaporator fan, have you heard the fan running in the past few hours?..if you are not sure pull the panel out to where you can see fan and watch it over an hour to see if it turns. I have included links with pictures of what the parts you need to check are: http://romulusappliance.com/manufacturers/maytag/refrigerators/575432.JPG defrost stat http://www.hotekalliance.com/UploadFiles/2008627111553382.jpg heaters http://www.applianceblog.com/archives/EvapMotor1018185.jpg evap fan. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please feel free to comment again. If you decide to get a repair guy in should not cost you any more then $120 - $200 depending on make/model/problem Good luck! P.s Please don't forget to rate my solution Thanks! Mike

SOURCE: GE Model # DSS25PFMD WW, lights and fan are working not cooling

If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Freezer works fridge does not

Needs to be completely thawed for 2 days. Or wlse the circulator fan under the freezer panel inside freezer is not working. Take the plastic bottom of freezer out and let thaw. Then plug in fridge and check if the fan is running inside there. Do not poke around inside there or fridge will be punctured and ruined.

Any info on electrolux RA1300 gas fridge. Freezer works well but fridge compartment doesn't chill

If you had an electric fridge the problem is usually the evaporator fan motor ($30).
I suspect that you may have the same problem. Generally, freezers are cooled only, when the fridge needs cooling, the evaporator fan comes on and blows cold air from the freezer to the fridge compartment. The advice below is for an electric fridge but may also work for you, it's worth a try I suppose.
Check to be sure you can get a replacement fan first, they last about 4 - 5 years. Available from a parts supplier or electric motor company.
Unplug fridge, or disconnect gas etc. Fan should be located usually in top of freezer behind a vented cover plate. Remove cover, remove screws holding fan in, may have to cut wires. Replace with new motor, make sure the fan spins the same direction (CW OR CCW) as your old one, if you don't know which way it should spin then be sure it pushes air into the freezer area and doesn't spin backward drawing air from the freezer area.
