SOURCE: my hp pl5060n plama tv when turned on has sound

Hi carolyn,

If the symptoms appear in all inputs, this is an indication that the problem is in the TV itself.

This is a fault either on the power supply board or the y-sustain board.

The unit needs to check these boards to determine where the fault came from. First thing to check is the continuity of the fuses on the Y-sustain board. If they are open, replaced it with new one. Sometimes fuse replacement alone, the unit is operational again. However if the fuse blow again, this is an indication of faulty Y-sustain board. It should be replace with new board.

If the fuses are intact, the output of the power supply must be checked feeding this board. High chance if the fuse is in good condition, the power supply is the caused of the symptoms. To confirm, it needs to check the output voltages feeding the y-sustain board.

If you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't troubleshoot the unit yourself, I would advice you to send it in or look of a qualified TV Technician to isolate the problem.

Also, check if your unit is still under warranty/extended warranty period, avail it because the manufacturer will fix it for free. Opening the back cover will void the warranty.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using Fixya.

It sounds like a panel fault. Anyway, check this link. It has details with illustrations to Plasma display panels. Check them to that of your TVs, and make sure. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Pull up previous posts there, either by its left side bar, or view it in Timslide option.

My hp tv has a faded picture. very dark , how can i fix it , can it be fixed?

Plasmas will get darker and darker over their life, just part of phosphorus based technologies. but if it is VERY dark, dark enough the picture is not watchable, it sounds like the transformer is malfunctioning. The voltage to the panel has dropped to the point that the electron count has dropped. You may want to call HP support to begin with, this may be a known issue for them.
