It usually just is held with a couple screws then lift it out and unplug it.

SOURCE: stove top ignitors do not ignite but oven does.

Electric gas igniters sometimes get stuck in one position causing a clicking sound. The clicking sound that you hear is the electric arc that is pulsing from the igniter conductor (wire) to ground (the gas burner). It receives power from the electrical outlet that the stove is plugged into.
Residue from food and sometimes cleaning products may be preventing the igniter from producing a spark (Arc) to the base of the burner. This is a common problem that occurs when the stove has been cleaned or food is allowed to build up. Make sure that the igniter and the burner base are clean and dry. This will help with proper operation. Oven cleaner and a small tooth brush may be used to accomplish this. Another problem with ignition may occur if you have too little (touching) or too much space between the igniter and the base of the burner; it will prevent the burner from igniting. You should only have a little more space than the thickness of a nickel between the burner base and the igniter. A good “blue” arc from the igniter to the burner base is optimal. If this doesn’t work, you may need to replace the electric igniter module. Good luck.

We have a Whirlpool Gas Range, model SF357PEKQ. When I start the bake feature, you can hear the gas flow, the ignitor click (about 4 times) yet there is no ignition of the gas (flame doesn't start)....

Whirlpool had some grounding issues with some of their electronic ignition ranges. Make sure your outlet is grounded first. Then you might need to make sure the bake burner itself is grounded very good against the range frame. I have put star washers between the burner and frame and tightened very tight, that sometimes helps. Also make sure the holes in the burner under the spark electrode are clear from debris. Sometimes the burning of gas leaves a residue that can stop up the holes and not let the gas flow out where the spark is hitting the burner. Hope that helps.

I JUST MOVED INTO A HOUSE WITH A WHIRLPOOL SUPER CAPACITY 465. IT DIDN'T COME WITH A MANUEL AND WE DON'T KNOW HOW TO BAKE. WHEN WE PREHEAT IT DOES NOTHING. THE SELFCLEAN AND BROILER WORKS THOUGH

Remove the bottom tray in oven compartment...... usually 2 screws at the rear... Turn it on to bake and see if ignitor glows if not test ignitor for 120v if you have 120v replace the ignitor. If it glows and still does not light burner after a few seconds the ignitor is weak replace it. (The gas safety valve has to receive a certain amount of power that must flow through the ignitor for the burner to ignite a weak ignitor will not allow enough power to flow through it). If you are not getting 120v trace the circuit.

My 3 year old barely used Whirlpool Gas Oven has stopped heating. The gas stove top still works. Whirlpool customer service told me to clean out the gas chamber with a pin...there's nothing TO cleanout....

Just had a repairman here today March 31, 2010 for the same problem. $350 repair bill. There was a short in the gas valve that cause it to go bad and it also blew out the ignitaion computer board. Forget about replacing the ignitor. I already did and that was not the problem. So the qauestion for you is pay for the repair or buy a new stove.

Oven sparks 3 times ignites then shuts down . Gas valve has been replaced no change.

i ran into this one a while ago,the oven burner and ignitor came as a kit together.what happened is they realized later that they needed more holes by the ignitor/sensor so it should come as a kit.good luck!

Hello when i put my temp for my gas stove on say 350, the pilot is glowing but it doesnt seem to flame/heat up, and i get a somewhat odor of gas, could the therometer need replacing or maybe the ignition...

Your glowbar ignitor part must be replaced, Unplug the range and turn off the gas. Remove yje oven racks, The oven base pan. Then remove the flame spreader. You will see the glowbar ignitor attached to the side of the bake burner. Remove it and replace it with a new ignitor. Replace all the range parts.Turn on the power and turn on the gas supply.

Copy and paste this site for the location of the ignitor you can also purchase the part from them.

My oven does not ignite, no gas is coming out. Gas range works.

You probably have a bad bake ignitor, The ignitor is a common part to go bad over time. If it isn't working, or isn't getting hot enough, the valve will not open to let gas in. That is why you can't light it with a match. The bake ignitor isn't very expensive, and is not to difficult to replace. Be sure to get the "bake ignitor", and not the "broil ignitor". If you need help getting the part # for it, or help with replacment procedures, let me know, be happy to help. shane Also, if this helps you fix your problem, please rate this solution. thanks, shane
