SOURCE: Avanti DG241BS - oven will not stay on

There has to be a protection system in the burner assembly to cut the supply of gas to the burner if it does not light. For the case of an oven the supply must be cut off immediately if the burner and its pilot go out. For that gas control system to work the burner control must "recognize" with a sensor when the burner is lit and when it is not. Pushing the knob "in" momentarily on this model bypasses the protection system momentarily to allow a burner to be ignited in the first place. If releasing the knob extinguishes the flame the control system is not "seeing" the flame. I tried to find some detail info on you particular ignition system but to no avail so all I can offer is a general approach to these kinds of problems . You need to find and clean or replace the sensor used to detect a flame. It could be an optical one (doubt that) or a temperature flame sensor, a thermocouple sensor, or some other kind I haven't thought of. Fixing this problem involves first determining what kind of sensor it uses. A copy of a service manual for this model can help you determine that. Try to clean the flame detector, and if that doesn't work you have to replace it or the gas control assembly it is a part of. If you have a spark ignition and its not sparking when it should first clean it --carefully--. Spilled food can short them out. Unplug the range before doing this. The owners manual shows it to be under the top burners which can be removed for cleaning this.

If this is electronic ignition, then chances are the burner or ignitor nub has residue on them, preventing the flame detection system from keeping the gas on.

Use warm soapy water and a plastic scrub brush to thoroughly clean the burner cap, burner base, and ignitor nub.

Oven does not stay lit

Probably something that should be checked by 'GAS SAFE' QUALIFIED ENGINEER. May be that the safety shut off is faulty? I believe that all gas work must, by law, be carried out by qualified personnel now, at least in the UK? could be wrong.

Avanti G2002CW oven or broiler won't stay lit once ignited

I had this same issue on this same model (which is how I happened upon this page). I'm still not exactly sure why, but the problem resolved when I pushed down on the knob more firmly than I normally would to light the stove, and it seemed to slide in a little deeper. After that, the oven would light.

The dial on my Avanti 24" oven is hard to determine which way to turn. When I hear the clicking sound, as the burners do, next I hear the lighting, whoom. Shall I start it at a low temp and then in a few...

It sounds like you are having an excesive buildup of gas pre-ignition. You should hear no "Whooom" sound.

The ignition assemble likely needs to be cleaned of rust, dirt, grease etc. That is the typical cause if improper ignition, gas buildup pre-ignition etc.

The problem of not staying lit is caused by either the flame sensor not sensing flame, (which may need to be cleaned or replaced.) or that the flame is simply being blown out by the air movement as a result of the sudden combustion of excessive gas build up.

So, to summarize, the ignition and burner assemblies need to be cleaned, and the flame sensor may need to be replaced.

You need to order parts from AVANTI.

Very disappointing customer service.
I have been waiting 6 weeks for a new thermostat. It will not
arrive from China until June -- I was originally told it would come in April. All AVANTI parts are from China and AVANTI in Florida is the
only dealer. I will never buy AVANTI again.
