If there's film in the camera it could have reached the end of the roll and you were unaware or it didn't indicate it. Try to rewind the film and use the rewind button on the bottom of the camera. Try pushing the button in anyway and advancing the wind lever. if this isn't the problem then the internal gear is jammed or broken and the camera needs service.

Two capacitors in these Minoltas die over time. If you are handy at such things, you can buy the caps, remove top and bottom covers, remove the dead caps and solder in the new ones. Don't Panic.
You can find instructions on the web for this well known issue, and you can also opt to send it to a camera repair place. Garrys camera repair in Niles, ILL does it for about $58 incl return shipping. He will also clean, lube and adjust it for ya. Something they all need eventually.

SOURCE: Film Advance levar wont work. Milnolta x-700

The Minolta X-series (X-300/370, X-570, X-700) were known for this issue. Two capacitors under the top and bottom covers go bad over time. They prevent the shutter from releasing, so you cannot wind to re-**** the shutter. If you're handy at these things, you can buy the caps, remove the covers, solder in the new caps, and be fine. This issue is well known and you can find instructions on the web. Or you can send it in for repair. Garry's Camera repair in Niles,ILL will do it cheaply at $58 incl return postage. Look him up on the web.

Your camera is in cocked position with shutter fully cocked and that is why you cannot advance the film advance lever. Set the shutter to x position ( on your shutter speed dial on the right hand side and top of your camera ) . The shutter should release and then you should be able to advance the film advance lever.

Film advance lever stuck. Changed batteries but can not move the film advance lever.

Hi fmerlin, If you have film in it you may need to remove the film to free up the advance lever. Go into a closet cover under a blanket etc. Also, Walmart and most drug stores have a big change bag that they could do it for you. With film out it still will not advance it will need to go to Nikon.

My Mamiya RB67 triggers and shutter lease lever works but film advance lever doesn't move. Trigger button fired several times but film advance still showing 1.

This is not the best solution as it indicates a faulty film back. The film should advance without resorting to activating the film-wind release lever. That is only for intentionally advancing a partially exposed roll of film. Make sure the multi-exposure lever is not engaged and that the counter does advance and the red mark disappears as you advance to an unexposed frame.

Film advance

In most film cameras, a battery is not necessary to manual advance film using the lever. Your Canon AV-1 is no exception. I have owned two cameras from the same group, the AE-1 and the Canon A-1. Neither required a battery for manual film advance.

Make sure the ring around the shutter release button is set to "A", otherwise the shutter won't release and the film lever won't work correctly. If the ring shows an "L", the shutter release is locked.

Here's a graphic of the batteries that can be used in your AV-1:

Film advance lever.

Do you press the shutter button to release the lever for the next photo? That's how you advance the film from the exposure to light, when first insterting the film.

Film advance

I removed the advance lever cover as suggested and tightened the screw. This did not solve the issue. However, I then realized the film rewind button on the bottom of the camera was stuck on the "in" position. I could not get it to release which meant I could not advance the film lever to free up the shutter. To solve this issue I removed the bottom cover from the camera (taking out the 3 small screws) and then pulled the advance lever button all the way to the right. This released the button that had been stuck in and allowed me to advance the film lever properly again and take more pictures. Hope this helps!

Film advance lever

Yes this is fairly common with K 1000 and the Spotmatics : although the shutter is cocked and hence you cannot advance film you cannot release shutter because mirror box is not cocked. Remedy : remove bottom cover and locate mirror box lever which protrudes slightely and is movable up and down and is spring loaded. Move upwards until it licks in position ( moving up against spring tension ). Now release the shutter and camera should let you advance the film .

Help, my camera wont take pictures

Did you try pushing the shutter button? It may already be wound. Otherwise, try pushing the rewind button in and holding it while you wind the lever. Now, it MAY be that your at the end of the roll-what does your counter say?
