Call of Duty 4 Takes Forever to Load on PC Online

Whenever i try to get into a game of Call of Duty 4 online on pc it gets stuck on "Setting up Game". The three dots keep going so the computer didn't freeze, its just that it doesn't get anywhere after >5 minutes. Very rarely i'm able to join a game but after the game ends it gets stuck on "waiting for server to load new map". My computer can easily run the game, no frame rate drops at highest res etc. and i play xbox live all the time and other computer games online so it shouldn't be my internet. I just got this game brand new and it has the 1.7 patch on it already. Any help?

I'm sorry but i really have no idea what you just said. I know my IP address and can find it with cmd but what do i do with it exactly? I'm currently on a D-Link wireless AirPlus USB card which is getting wireless internet from a Linksys router.

Ok i've gotten to our linksys router control but i am not sure where to enter 26980. I got to a screen that looks almost identical to thishttp://portforward.com/english/routers/p... Except it has UPnP Forwarding and Port Triggering buttons at the bottom.

Any help with where to enter this?

If you are on a router you may want to open the ports for online play. 28960 on TCP & UDP P.s. If you are on a linksys router the Ip that you type in your browser is most likely 192.168.1.1 and for Dlink 192.168.0.1 If you dont use either of these router companies check the manual and it should tell you the Ip address, or go into CMD prompt on windows and type in "Ipconfig"

Ok so on all of the games like Cod or Warcraft 3, or Bf 1942, They run on Private Owned server.

You need to open or forward ports

    To do this you

    1. Go to your internet browser

    2. Type your Ip (in your case 192.168.0.1 for d-link)

    3. Leave the Username default, and type "admin" as the password

    4. It will most likely be in the Advanced menu, so click "Advanced"

    5. Look for something that says "Port Forwarding" "Open Ports" Ext.

    6. Next It should say UDP TCP Type 26980 into both

    7. Finally set the Schedule to always, and the Inbound filter to Allow all

    8. Save and Exit

This may require the router to reboot, after you have rebooted if needed, try and play your game

If thats the page your on, then your on track, You type the 28960 into start and end boxes

And choose Both from the Protocol Menu choose the IP ending u want it to work for so .102 or w.e your running

and click the enable button scroll down and click Accept and it should be good

There are Websites where u can test if ports are forwarded properly

The slowness might be your computer,

    Or your internet Service Provider

But I hope it allows you into the games now :)

Cod4 'sometimes works online'

just wait for Modern Warfare 2. I play COD4 all the time and the problems are getting worse for everyone, not just you. Mine sometimes takes forever to get there, sometimes it doesn't and I have to restart, or the Playstation Network kicks me off a million times a night. 11-10-09 and COD MW2 will be out and then we can deal with all those problems :)

Eupdates

if you are trying to update directly from your pc to console, just try downloading the update to a cd then insert it into the game console for the update.. be sure the game is currently being ran online--meaning sometimes the old versions are not going to update.. best way to avoid that is to burn it to the cd as stated....hope this helps..thx, d
