First, go to Lowe's or Home depot. Purchase a electrical tape rated for 700 Degrees F. and seal the crack.

Second, you want to make sure no fluid or what ever gets into the crack. This will knock out your heating element and burner control.

Third, You can use the other burners. The temperature may be a bit higher than the burner control indicates.

Fourth, Purchase a new glass top. There are only a couple of screws that hold it on.

Fifth, Go into the following web site. Put in your model number. This should be on a metal plate after you open the oven door, on the face of the unit. Plug in your model number.

Sixth, On the diagram on this site locate the part number for the glass top. Search the internet for best price.

A small crack, turns into a big crack, Short of ordering a new piece of glass, there is no "fix" sorry. YOu can continue to use it, but eventually it will run across the cook top, and then shatter the glass... Better be safe than sorry.

Hi. Yes you can buy a new glass. Most of the come with frame top now. If you get me the model # I can look this up for you and get you an idea on cost.

whats the entire model number?? and you cracked the main top glass assy??? ill look up tha part for you, not a teribly hard job, but depending on glass may be expensive

Your crack was most likely cause by a flaw in the glass top. Most GE smooth-top ranges (espesially if manufactured prior to 1/1/06) have a five year warranty covering this type of failure. The labor is not covered after the first year. Check the back pages of your use and care book for warranty info on your model. I'd advise against continued use of the cook top with a crack, as spills can get to components and cause further damage.

This part can cost over $400. It is usually not worth fixing. NEVER operate the stove with a cracked top. This is tempered glass and it can just explode! It is also a dangerous electrical issue. Liquid can drip down through the crack and contact the live open element.
