Very old system. Just found out the hard way we can't dial 911 at all. System says "dial restricted" RLS We do not normally have to dial a "9" first, all lines dial straight out. How do we fix this?

Not sure of the Sony, but some other phones go into 911 mode if 911 is dialed - then every call goes only to 911. Somewhere in the settings there should be a Mode selection - normal, airplane, emergency, etc.
old drive, huh? 40gb, is very old, what system, PC"? Mac? DVR? what? with all old drives.! plug it in, does it spin? Listen with ears, whirl'g sound is normal. no , its bad, or the power cable is dead. try another, if it spins good, shut it off. next connect the data cable. to the drive. turn on the system, PC answer, go into BIOS. does it see the drive in the BIOS page , under DRIVES. yes, good. no , its dead. easy peasy
Lock? As in restrict dialing? It's done through system programming in the specific cabinet. In a TA series, it requires a bit of studying and reading to understand TRS and COS setup. There's also a dialing restriction option that can be used as a 4-digit security code before you can dial out on a line, but once that code is broken, you can compromise the system.
Here's a phone system lesson. Panasonic discontinued your TD phone system about 8 years ago, so you either got a super deal or the system has been installed that long ago. Restrictions are programmed into the system by an installer and manager. There's a Class of Service override access by dialing 47 on the intercom and a code. Since the 7436 is a special phone, it's probably the one attached to extension 101. If that phone is restricted, clearly whoever owns the system doesn't want whatever you're dialing to be dialed.
Now you wouldn't be asking "someone on the internet" for instructions on how to beat the restrictions would you?
I didn't think so. Check with the system owner or installer.
Best way to do that is to sit down with the manual and look at programs 400-408. At a minimum, if you restrict 1 and 0 in a table and assign it to your extensons in 405, those phones can't dial long distance. That's fairly worthless in today's calling climate when some carriers let you dial just 10 digits or you have to dial 1 for any local call outside your area code. 404 lets you build 8 tables of 10 number sequences each for restriction and 407 lets you build 8 tables of 10 number sequences for allow. For example You could put 1 HOLD HOLD HOLD (hold is the wildcard) in one table and entry of 404 with traditional dialing and that would restrict all 1+ long distance. Then, in 407 5 of your entries in one table would be 1800, 1888, 1877, 1866 and 1855 to allow toll free calling. These tables get assigned to extensions in programs 405 and 408. A simple restriction (ie local calls only, internal calls only) get assigned in 401. There are some other tricks and, above all, remember that you have to keep 911 availabe for access and allowing 0 is never a good idea because 0 alone will get the operator and that defeats the purpose of toll restriction.
Other tricks involve custom CLASS codes. You need to account for the clever worker who dial *67. That gives them second dial tone and they can dial the world. It would be easy if you could block first digit *, but you ought to allow *57 for nuisance call trace. If you have the above where long distance is dialed with only 10 digits, then you can always start with HOLD HOLD HOLD in a table and allow 911 and the local area code in an allow table. The table digits can be up to 12 so you may have to go to 6 digit screening in allow tables for local exchanges. In my area, we have 10 digit dialing and 419352 419353 419354 (among others) along with 567213 are local calls. If I were programming a customer 6 miles to the North, there would be extensive programming in both area codes.
Outside of that, it's just a function of analyzing your local calls, area codes, how a call is dialed, and building your tables. We do this with billing by the hour :-)
There are a couple of things that make this a difficult answer. First of all, Panasonic made 2 different TA-308's, one for the U.S. market and one for the rest of the world. The U.S. 308 is non-expandable.
Pretty much, the TA-s have a similar program, so this specifically applies to the U.S. version, but it should also work for the other. This also assumes that you know how to get into system programming and are familiar with the 3 digit programming of a Panasonic system.
Do you need to allow for emergency dialing? In some areas, you cannot block it. If you don't have to worry about 911, then you can restrict access to outside lines by programming 405-407 for no line access. If you have to allow for 911 or other emergency numbers, then you have to use Toll Restriction and Class of Service.
Programs 601-603 set the COS and the manual has TRS examples, but it basically means you set the COS to something other than 1, like 5, then go into 305 and put all digits into the denied digits (using PAUSE as the wildcard). 911 will override by 309's emergency dial number set.
In passing, program 306 lets you store 80 exception codes to COS restrictions.

OK - lets get started.... Do you have the programming password to get into the system?
Do you have the programming template (piece of paper to guide you thru the proper steps in which button to press?)
If you do lets go:
Go to a set, hopefully a bigger set with 2 rows of buttons...
-> Feature * * 2 6 6 3 4 4
-> is this is a CIC's/MIC's system it will ask for a password see next step, if this is a BCM it will ask you for a User ID:___ your default ID is 738662
-> Password:___ default is 266344
-> now you will see TERMINALS&SETS... keep hitting the NEXT button off the template till you see SYSTEM PRGRMING...
-> now hit the ENTER and press the NEXT key till you see CHANGE DN
-> now press ENTER
this is were you will type in the old extension number (EX:2331) then type in the new extension number that you want the set to have (EX:5331)
-> now hit the RLS button... check to see if the number changed but pressing FEATURE * 0 and pressing the INTERCOM key.
Now there are a few things that you have to remember, the voicemail has not been changed, the new extension needs to be programmed into the TARGETLINE for your DID number to ring at your desk, and if you have your extension as a Busy Lamp Field on the front reception, you have to change that to your new extension by going to the receptionist desk:
->FEATURE * 2, pressing your button, and dialing your new extension.
-> now to see what your direct number target line is, press FEATURE * ) and press the button for your direct line... and see what LINE number you have, now get back into the system programming and find LINES and type in the number that you found on your phone (EX:255), press ENTER and press ENTER again you should see TARGET LINE.
-> Keep pressing NEXT till you seePRIMESET:___ this has your old extension and press CHANGE and type in your new extension.
-> hit the NEXT button and RLS
-> your voicemail dial FEATURE 9 8 3
If you have a BCM your default LOG:___ is 738662 but if you have a MIC/CIC's system it will say password: default password is 10020000 for a 4 digit extension, 1020000 for a 3 digit extension.
But if this a BCM the default password will be 2 6 6 3 4 4
-> press MBOX
-> press CHNG
-> your old extension
-> you should now see PASSWORD press NEXT and you should see your old extension press CHNG and type in your new extension. Hit the next button after inputting this information, until you get back to the MAILBOX ADMIN and hit RLS.
Haha they are old! Enter programming by dialing Feature **266344, then using 266344 as your password. Your password may be different depending on your phone company. Contact them for more details. Scroll using navigation keys to "General Admin". Scroll to Time and Date, then select time. You can go through individually and fix the hour and minute. When you are done, press Rls
