See the horizontal marks in the picture, those are the timing marks.
Here are the marks

valve timing, crank pulley T D C mark to mark on timing cover. Cam gear mark to mark on head or block . Ignition timing T D C mark on crank pulley to timing mark on timing cover.

Timing marks 2000 Toyota corolla (4E-FE/ 4A-FE/ 5A-FE)


Align the crankshaft pulley mark with the 0 mark of timing case.

The camshaft sprocket is at TDC when the hole in the sprocket lines up with the notch in the bearing cap

Set the Crankshaft key in 12 'o Align yellow timing chain mark
Clock position (The key aligns on the crankshaft sprocket
with the mark on the oil pump (see arrow)
body (see arrow mark)

Align the marks on the sprockets Place the crankshaft angle plate
with the yellow links of the timing with the marks B or F, facing
chain. towards you.

There are marks on the crank pulley to align with mark on the sheet metal cover behind the pulley.
Exhaust cam sprocket has mark that aligns with mark on valve cover.
16 chain links between marks on cams. The square marks on both cams align with triangle marks on the cam hold down bracket.

there should be a corresponding mark on the wheel and on the cover. what specifically is your engine? the marks on the wheel could be a punched rounded mark while on the timing belt cover the mark looks like it has been made by a hacksaw when #1 piston is on TDC youre closest to the mark. you can also crank the cam wheel to the cycle where its on ignition stage-this also is the closest to the mark

Installation
Ensure timing marks aligned [6] & [7] . 1. Fit timing belt in anti-clockwise direction, starting at crankshaft sprocket. Ensure belt is taut between sprockets. 2. Slacken tensioner pulley bolt [8] . Push tensioner pulley firmly against timing belt to tension belt. 3. Tighten tensioner pulley bolt [8] . Tightening torque: 43-55 Nm. 4. Except Matrix: Turn crankshaft one turn clockwise. 5. Matrix: Turn crankshaft two turns clockwise. 6. Ensure timing marks aligned [6] . 7. Apply a load of 2 kg to belt at . Belt should deflect 4-6 mm. If not: Adjust position of tensioner pulley. 8. Install components in reverse order of removal. 9. Tighten crankshaft pulley bolt [2] . Tightening torque: 170-180 Nm

7 is timing mark on cam,pin mark to top,hole in spoke below pin mark lines up with mark on head
6 is crank timing mark,pin mark on crank lines up with mark on block
NOTE this mark is just before top

Timing mark on cam is 20 past [as a clock face]
Pin mark on cam lines up with head casting mark
Crank mark 5 past,line up pin marks

On cam gear where it mark (intake) to the left of that there will be a mark (line) and the other gear where it make (exhaust) to the left of that there will be a mark (line), align both of those marks at about 12:00 o'clock, there will also be marks on the timing belt back cover, on the crack shaft gear there will be a mark also align that mark at 6:00 o'clock, there will be a cut on the housing align both mark's together.Hope this was very helpful

The timing marks indicate degrees of advance. Thus, the first mark would be top dead center and in increments of two it increases to 10 degrees before top dead center.

The timing marks are just above the cams at the "twelve o'clock position"

If necessary, align the timing marks.
NOTE When aligning the cam pulleys with the seal plate marks, align the left cam pulley “I” mark and the right cam pulley on the “E” mark.

WARNING When aligning the timing marks, do not turn the timing gear counterclockwise. Damage to the engine will occur.
