How do i replace the touchpad on a compaq v5000 series?
Disassemble the laptop, down to where you can remove the top case cover, and get to the Touchpad. (AC adapter, {Charger}, removed, and battery removed)
Here's how:
1.http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=499847&lang=en&
This is HP.com/Support, and the Manuals page for the Compaq Presario V5000 CTO laptop. (Even if it isn't your exact model, your laptop is part of the Presario V5000 Series, and this information transfers directly over)
On this page I would like you to click on ->
Compaq Presario V5000 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service
Guide <- in blue.
It states that it's a 'guide', but it's a Service Manual, believe me!
This is a PDF file download. After you click on it, you may not see
anything happening for up to 30 seconds. Usually after 10 seconds
you will see the first page. I caution you to Not look through it, until it has fully downloaded. You may accidentally break the connection.
AFTER it has fully downloaded, you can save it to your computer.
This way you can burn it to a CD disk, and look at it anytime you want. (You can also delete it off of your computer, and free up harddrive space, plus you can put the disk in another computer, and view it as you work on your laptop)
To do this click on the Floppy Disk icon. This is in the upper header, and is the second icon from the left. Hovering your mouse over it will briefly reveal, "Click to save this file to your computer or another location"
If you do not have your downloads set to be saved to your My Documents folder, this pdf file will go to your desktop screen.

Suggest you start with Page 77 first, then on Page 125 (Base Enclosure and Top Cover), you'll find the info for removing the Top Cover. The Touchpad is in the Top Cover.
The top cover of the laptop where the touch pad is connected includes the touch pad. Its most likely build in and can't be easily replaced. you may have to replace the whole top cover.
