I have an iomega LDHD400-U external hard drive with a DA-30C03 P/N: 31426900 AC Adapter. The unit won't come on. No sound whatsoever. The symptom is that when it is all plugged in and I turn it on the green light on the AC Adapter goes out and nothing happens. I am trying to determine if I need to buy a new AC Adapter or have a problem with the hard drive itself.

Do you have access to a multimeter or voltmeter? If you do you can check the voltage coming out of the adapter and make sure it matches what the power adapter says it is. If it doesn't, then it is the power adapter. If it does, then it is the drive or enclosure.

Most of the Iomega drive adapters do but not all. There's no information on Iomega's site regarding the voltage but if you look carefully at the fine print on the adapter, it should have a Input Voltage Range listing, normally 100-240, if this is the case then as long as you have a cord that fits from the wall to the adapter the adapter will adjust itself to voltage within this range. If you have one of the few that staes only 90-120V for range then the answer is no, but Targus sells a universal adapter for laptops that comes with an appropriate tip for your drive that does support 90-240V.

SOURCE: my iomega 500gb external hard drive has a broken.
My Iomega (33654) 500GB USB isn't working. When I turn it on the blue light comes on for a few seconds. I can hear / feel it working but then the light goes off (it is still whirring inside). The computer isn't recognising it. I think it's still under guarantee but I can't find the paperwork. Do you have any ideas?
