Here's our setup: Denon AVR-2807, Denon DVD_1920, Dish Hopper with Sling. The DVD and Hopper are connected via HDMI to the AVR. The AVR is connected to a JVC HD-ILA Rear Projection TV. There is also an Apple TV connected directly via HDMI to the JVC with digital audio connected to the AVR. About a month (maybe two) ago, during playback of the news thru the Hopper, the TV screen would go black, displaying Digital-IN1 in the upper right corner, and the audio would continue unless paused. Usually, I'd just back up the playback, things would reset themselves, and playback display would resume as normal. The problem did not seem to occur later in the evening during playing back of other Hopper recordings. After a while, the black screen interruption lengthened, and then the screen would turn pink. Eventually, it would reset and playback would resume normally. The frequency of the problem increased over time, and the pink screen would takeover sooner and last longer. Several days ago while playing a DVD, the screen turned black displaying Digital-IN1, then turned pink. The audio continued. Last night, we were unable to use either the Hopper or the DVD for long before the pink screen took over. Today, I turned on the AVR and Hopper and just let whatever show was on satellite (not in playback mode) run. Within a short time, the pink screen displayed (no picture) but the audio continued. I switched the HDMI cable coming from the AVR to Digital-IN1 of the TV to Digital-IN2. The pink screen continued for a while, then reset with programming and audio displaying normally. A short time later, the pink screen returned and has not reset to normal within the last 30+ minutes. I just completed testing display from the Apple TV via HDMI into Digital-IN1 and Digital-IN2 of the JVC. Display [and audio] are normal.

In summary, I believe that the Hopper, DVD, and JVC are just fine. There is a remote chance of a problem with the HDMI cable from the AVR to the TV (which I will attempt to test next). It seems that the problem is with the AVR-2807.

Over the weekend, I replaced the "Monitor out" HDMI cable between the AVR and TV. The pink screen problem has NOT occurred since. Hopefully, problem solved!

Well your on the right track I would say it's your LCD because your video chip wouldn't make black circles I don't think. The pink and black lines are a symptom of a LCD that has been broken and the circles sound like someone squeezed it to pick it up by the screen maybe. That would be for your venders warranty department to figure out though. If you really want to know you could buy a cable to hoot it up to an external video source if the display is fine, it's defiantly your LCD.

When watching a dvd, screen goes black and the word video appears on the screen in the upper right hand corner. Picture sometimes comes back, and then goes out again.

It sounds like your TV/monitor is losing the video feed. That's why it displays 'Video' - the label assigned to the input - so you'll know the TV is turned on but missing the input. You would get the same response from the TV if you turned the DVD off. I'd look at the integrity of the video connection from the DVD.

Try to see If you can see a photo in Playback mode from your memory card (Transfer a good photo to the card first) Do all the menus display correctly? If so it would seem the camera sensor (ccd) is bad. Canon had a recall on these models with bad sensors and will repair them free of charge.

Monitor displays a black half circle 1.5 inch diameter in upper left conrner of screen.

Depending on the age of the monitor, this could be a symptom of a failing LCD display (or CRT tube, if you're using one of the older styled big ones). one way to test for sure though, is if you have access to another computer (whether it be desktop or laptop, shouldn't matter) and hook it up to that one and see if the same thing happens. If it does, then you know that your monitor is at fault. If you are within manufacturer's warranty you can usually get it repaired through your place of purchase, or directly with the manufacturer themselves, but if not, then repairs are usually not worth it, and will probably cost more than the monitor is currently worth.
