Anti-shake problem My Konica Minolta 7D stopped taking pictures. It will still auto-focus, but nothing happens when you press the shutter button all the way down. The problem I experience is: 1. Shutter does not release. 2. When camera is powered up, after the initial lens shuffle a clicking sound is heard. 3. The auto shake bars (all five of them) to the right of the view finder are blinking 4. Show 0 (zero) as the number of frames remaining in the view finder. 5. The problem is intermittent, i.e., it goes away after letting the camera rest for some time, but then recurs. This is a now well-known problem which Sony still refuses to accept as a 7D defect

Hello. Did anybody here actually tried to fix the tebure assy? I don't mean buying a new one, I mean really fixing it. My 7D has the rattle of dead but I know it is a symptom sensitive to temperature (camera in the fridge works fine). So the tebure assy is not burned or permanently destroyed, it has some kind of design flaw that doesn't allow it to work properly over time. Maybe plastic creep on the sensor holder? Or reduced power of the permanent magnet on the position detection MEMS? Really FIXiNG tips would be appreciated. Thanks

Symptom 1: referred to as FFB (Firts Frame Black). this is when you do not use the camera for a while and when you attempt to take the first snap shot, the Shutter is either stuck, or takes a blank/black picture (some cases the picture came out bluish). Sometimes the camera would freeze and you would need to remove the battery and re-insert it in order to reset the camera. Usually the camera comes back to life and and is usuable for a while until you store it. Sony will fix this free as they identified it as a design flaw in which the remedied (incorrect gear size for the Shutter charge assembly). Contact Sony support as they own all Minolta camera assets and tell them you have the FFB or First Frame Black problem and they will set up a ticket and instructions on where and how to send it.
symptom 2: Camera does not respond at all to the shutter release. Focus is fine, menu works, every function works no problem except for the most important - taking a picture (releasing the shutter). When you first turn on the camera, you hear the Antishift module attempt to center the CCD with a series of clicking noise for 5 or so seconds (not a good sign, also called the death rattle). All 5 AS bars in the view finder are blinking. In this case, the Tebure Assembly (AS Module) has failed and will need replacing. This is not cheap - sending it in to Precision Camera will run you around $250-$280. You can do it yourself if you order the assembly from Sony: Item - ( TEBURE ASSY ), U3008233U, $118.22 ea. via 1-800-488-7669 (will take 3-4 weeks). And follow the service manual to install and calibrate it (via the service manual download at http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/topic36109_post396839.html#396839).
However, if your camera experienced the FFB and then siezed (symptom 2) you can probably still get Sony to repair it free as its one charge for a complete camera repair. Call them up and tell them your situation.

Thanks for a very complete reply. My only comment is that, while I would anticipate having few problems with replacing the Tebure assembly, calibrating it is likely to be impossible without the HIT controller. Best regards, Scott

Camera won't take pictures.

Go into the settings and select Clean CCD. It should be under the blue menu. The shutter curtain has a tendency to stick on this model. There was a recall on them way back when they first came out. 1a53cc1b-6da0-4b38-942c-78caadf51633.gif 1bcf9dee-9615-448f-a170-16ef0e446320.gif

I have a Kinica z5 camera with anti shake. The problem is almost all pictures are blurry.

With autofocus digital cameras, blurred photos are almost always a result of camera shake. You need to hold the camera still even after pressing the button, as there is often a short delay before the shutter fires.

Many digital cameras have a two-stage shutter press- first pressure causes the camera to focus, then the follow through pressure takes the picture. If you are rushing this, you may get unfocussed shots.

Finally, make sure that you have not left the camera in Macro mode. This is a special extreme close-up mode offered by some cameras, and it does not allow autofocus on objects at normal distances. The icon for Macro mode is a little flower. Some cameras have a "face recognition" mode that tries to find a face in the shot and focus on that, so check your autofocus modes to see if it is set to something odd like that.

The shutter does not operate. When the battery is inserted, all it does is adjusts the focus and does not click when you press the shutter. I'll appreciate your advice. Thanks

One of the most common problem is the antishake system.
When switched on, the carema shakes and makes sound for a second or two.
When the antishake is switched on (slide switch right of the ISO button) the 5 LED's of the antishake scale right in the view finder are flickering continuously.
When the antishake is broken, the camera doesn't fire even when the antishake is switched off.

M42 adaptor

Quite right too. When the M42 adaptor is fitted there is absolutely no exchange of information between the lens and the body: M42 lenses pre-date all of those later developments. Your camera will also be unable to stop down the lens automatically when taking the picture, most M42 lenses don't even stop down automatically when connected to an M42 body.

You need to do things the old-fashioned way. Your camera needs to be set to meter manually, shutter priority mode may also be used. In manual mode you focus the lens as normal with the aperture ring set to the lowest aperture number (i.e.aperture is wide open).
You then make sure that the lens in in manual mode as well and stop down to whatever you want, if the image remains bright enough then you can adjust the precise focus using the hyperfocal principle if you like which takes advantage of the increased depth of field of a stopped down lens.
In manual mode, you then tell the camera what aperture you have set (read it from the lens barrel) and set the shutter speed using the camera's light meter to guide you. If using shutter priority mode then the camera will choose the shutter speed for you.
Check everything is set as you intend and press the shutter.

It all sounds long winded but is exactly how many of the world's greatest photos were taken and soon becomes second nature. You also learn far more about the relationship between aperture, shutter speed and ISO settings and will be able to talk about reciprocity like you know about it!

Camera turns on with a bit of a tremble but shutter locks

I have an 5D with the same problem, It looks like the Anti shake does not initialize properly, The only bypass I found that worked (except for a real repair) is to set the display light timeout for 5 seconds, The standby timout for 1 minute, Turn the camera off, and on again, Wait for 5 sec then the display goes blank, wait for 1 minute then the camera goes in standby, (light from CF card flashed red 1 time) Then touch any button to re-activate the camera and... voila... everything works, including taking normal pictures and the anti-shake !!! So it only takes a minute everytime to startup..

7d camera stutter..........

vibrating sounds, flashing shake indicator, shutter won't release...

It's a fault in the camera and has to be repaired at the shop, Sorry, I know it's not the answer you were hoping for, but it's a depressingly common problem on the 5d/7d forums.
