Your Blackberry probably just needs a firmware restore. Here's a guide on how to restore the blackberry firmware, the website is at : Restore Blackberry
to factory settings. Download the Blackberry Desktop manager and run the
application loader. If it asks you for a password, you can enter it 10x wrong and that will wipe the blackberry as well.
did you format the card first... this might help. It could be too much memory. I put an old SD card in from a former phone and it was doing the same thing...powering on and off repeatedly.

My wife and I both have Pearl's. I found that the problem on both of
them was caused by Color Pearl, an application that allows you to
change the color of the Pearl's trackball. It was not a problem until
upgrading the Blackberry software to v 4.5. I tried rebooting,
removing the battery, etc. The light always came back on after an
alert. Removing the application ColorPearl did the trick. Just go to Options>Advanced Options>Applications and delete ColorPearl. Hope this helps someone.
