I don't think this is necessarily the case let me explain. First it is an HP pavilion dv9815nr, Vista Home Premium 32 bit, Quanta Motherboard,Nvidia Graphics. The laptop started running Hot several weeks ago and has been randomly shutting down. I noticed the DVD one day the was not showing up in Start>Computers with the other drives. So I looked In Device Mgr and no listing there. I had just update with Vista Service Pack 2 and Kaspersky Internet Virus's latest update 506. Had been having other troubles on another comp. with what I thought to be Kaspersky. I removed Kaspersky off my laptop and the Dvd came back. So I thought something in their program. So I went a couple of days and Bam no DVD. What is up? I worked trying to locate problem to no avail so I decided to do a Factory recovery. As I was moving Data to another external drive I noticed the dvd was showing up again, hmmm this crazy it stayed about ten minutes then was gone again. I continued on with recovery, after complete recovery to like the day I brought home and unboxed with no updates, no nothing still had no dvd/cd. Went ahead and loaded updates still no dvd. I started loading online Diagnostic Tools and a free anti virus still had nothing, then it popped up again so I'm thinking maybe this thing is loose in the pin socket, randomly shaking or something losing connection, but I kind of eliminated this theory because from the start even though it does not show up it will still light up and spin as if it is reading the disk.Ok I decided to Factory sweep again after I did this time it was there to start off then went back off an hour or so later after getting some updates from both HP and Microsoft. It will not show up in Command prompt>Diskpart>List Volume either even thought dvd spins and read light flickers.I'm thinking of sweeping again and not doing any updating, but this takes a lot of time, so I'll let you all know how that goes Thanks Ted

Well did another factory recovery. DVD is not being recognized so in my opinion it must be in the dvd itself

The driver for the device would have been corrupted by some incompatible drivers loaded onto your pc lately. It could also be that the device has been mistakenly disabled. If not, disable the device and restart your pc. After it stabilized on the desktop, go back to the Device Manager and enable it again. If nothing still happens, go through Control Panel and remove the driver from installed programs. Shut down your pc and disconnect the device. Leave for about 10 minutes and recoonect and power on the pc, the device should be detected by the pc and then install its drivers. If it doesn't detect the device, it has probably gone bad and should be replaced. Good luck

Laptop HP Pavillion dv6647nr (a dv6000 family) F11 key Problem

Did you format the drive or just repair it"??

Access BIOS and have a look in case that key stroke is disabled in there.

Sounds like the CD has overwritten that part of the HP registry....they have their own.

Hello i'm having HP PAVILLION DV6000 and OS is

You first remove that device from device manager.
Then restart the pc.
You may check the BIOS menu for that device for any clarification.
After restart since u have removed it the OS will detect the device and install it automatically.
Hope this helped.

HP Pavilion dv6000 OS(s)

The product key on the label on the bottom of the laptop will only work for the version of Windows that was installed on that laptop.
You can purchase an upgrade Windows Vista Ultimate and to use in conjunction with the existing Vista Home Premium.

My problem is that my system does'nt show any dvd drive in Lap

I had the same problem, it occurred right after windows installed sp2 and my laptop showed no dvd player with any program, I restored my laptop to the previous day before the update and it worked fine again, after that I just let windows update by itself and it has been a week and everything is fine, also in device manager open the dvd + sign and right click your dvd and click update drivers, if that does not work, right click your dvd, and then click delete, and then reboot your computer, laptop whatever and the computer will automatically recognize the player on startup and it will install again and hopefully that will get your drivers updated, do not worry about deleting the dvd player, it will reinstall all by itself, just have to reboot..thanks

My problem is that my system does'nt show any dvd drive in lapto

Follow the below very carefully....it usually fixes these problems. If there are no upper filters, don't worry....just delete the lower filters or vice/versa...get rid of the filters....just follw the guide below. When you get to the registry entries below, the first one maybe the one you need to edit...just read the numbers carefully to make sure you get the right one....it is easier than you think...you can do it!!!

Windows Vista
  1. Click Start
and then click All Programs.
  1. Click Accessories, and then click Run.
  2. Type regedit, and then click OK.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
  1. In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  1. In the right pane, click UpperFilters.

Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters
only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 8.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  3. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  4. In the right pane, click LowerFilters.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  6. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  7. Exit Registry Editor.
  8. Restart the computer.
