My 7 yr old Bosch dishwasher Model SHE44C runs continuously. The timer shows 80+ minutes and never counts down. After an hour, I need to press the "cancel/drain" option to end the cycle. Drains fines, dishes are clean. Just doesn't seem to go on to the next cycle and rinse/drain.

Hello, Welcome to Fixya.. On bosch dishwashers the "1" is actually an error code and not coincidentally the reason it runs forever ( likely doesn't dry or clean well either right ? ). Here`s the most likely reason why it has detected the error... Even if your home water supply appears hot, it's not hot enough and must be heated by the dishwasher to insure a proper clean and dry, hence most if not all manufacturer`s do this. When it comes to your Bosch dishwasher the problem likely lye`s within`the electronic timer/control, specifically the heater relay solder joint. ( a faulty flow switch, ntc or heater can also cause this, but not very probable ). To repair your unit It will require you to remove the control from the unit and then remove the control from it`s plastic housing and look for a burnt solder contact on the printed circuit board. This will be one of the pins from the heater relay, hence the unit sit`s and eventually display`s the error "1" telling you it can`t heat the water. ( I can send you documentation directly from B/S/H/ confirming and explaining this if you'd like to email me at [email protected]. I should also add, some of your models have been included in a bosch voluntary recall...based on serial number as well as model ). **Further to this, if you or someone you know is proficient at soldering, a lot of times it can be remedied by simply repairing the solder...although Bosch recommend`s replacing the control and I don`t pretend to speak on their behalf nor do I profess to know better. This is just my experience (it work`s) and my opinion (why buy new if one can repair ?...unless it is indeed a recall effected unit )** **Please disconnect the power before attempting any service to the dishwasher** Installing a new control will certainly remedy the problem as well. But when it is priced at about $170.00 I am more likely to offer someone an alternative to buying new, hence my first reaction to mention this repair tidbit. The control is available at most brick & mortar appliance parts stores or on-line at vendors such as "repairclinic.com", "appliancepartspros.com", "searspartsdirect.com" etc. part number is based on your specific model number so you`ll need to provide that. Hope this answer`s your question's, let me know if I can assist you further. Thank`s for visiting "fixya" for your repair inquiries. Please take a moment and rate this solution to it's helpfulness to you and leave a testimony if you're satisfied. Good luck. Regards, Macmarkus :)
SOURCE: Bosch she44c wash cycle time keeps extending.
We have had the same problem, except the water was not getting hot either. After a ton of research there was an issue that kept popping up. There was a massive recall on many of the model and serial #s. According to the recall there was a fire risk from the control board, the brains for the machine, that sits behind the digital display. For those not "at risk" but with the water not heating and the run time increasing, the problem can still be with the control board. I removed the control board and found a burned out connection with one of the controls. I soldered it and put the machine back together. The run time has returned to much closer (down to 128 from 184) than before the fix, but still is not back down to the original 108 minutes. I've priced a new control board--about $120.
This happened right after the warranty ran out. Imagine that.

I have been told to replace the timer which I am looking to do the same to my machine!

Hi,
No, the problem in not the unit, it is programed to run up to 3-3 1/2 hours for a single cycle. You can select quick wash to shorten this time down, but this is not a problem with the unit. It wants to assure you have clean dishes and hot enough water to complete the program.
In testing one a few days ago, I ran into this same problem, I reread the time charts and cycles and found this to be normal for this manufacture.
I hope this answered your question.

Hello, welcome to FixYa.
Based on your description I'd say the issue actually is with the control...unfortunately. This is commonly associated with a heating fault on Bosch built dishwashers ( various models including Bosch, Thermador, Siemens, Gaggenau, and Neff ).
Since the issue is likely within the electronic timer/control, specifically the heater relay solder joint. ( a faulty flow switch, ntc or heater can also cause this, but not very probable ). These are the steps you'll need to follow to resolve it or at least investigate.
If you feel capable of checking this on your own, there`s a way to visually inspect the control yourself...it really isn't very complicated.
It will require you to remove the control from the unit and then remove the control from it`s plastic housing and look for a burnt solder contact on the printed circuit board.
The culprit will 99% of the times be one of the pins from the heater relay, hence the unit sit`s and takes longer & longer to finish because it can`t heat to advance or unless the 2 buttons for "cancel" are pressed...this can also manifest as a long cycle time as I mentioned and eventually display's "1" on units with a display and usually very poor cleaning, no heating ( don't be fooled by the homes inlet hot water temperature ) as a result.
You can also run the unit through a regular or econo cycle ...any cycle with the exception of rinse & hold, and with the door panel removed place an ammeter on the gray/black wire it should draw 11 amps during the wash cycle...after it fills and the flow switch indicates it has adequate water to engage the heater.
**My Opinion - if you or someone you know is proficient at soldering, a lot of times it can be remedied by simply repairing the solder...but it has to be done well...or it will not last. Bosch recommend`s replacing the control and I don`t pretend to speak on their behalf nor do I profess to know better. This is just my experience (it work`s) and my opinion (why buy new if one can repair ?)
**Please disconnect the power or turn off the breaker before attempting any service to the dishwasher.**
If you do not feel comfortable attempting this service, call a local pro, preferably one familiar with Bosch/Thermador/Gaggenau/Siemens, to service your machine.
