SOURCE: not charging

Dell PA-10 & PA-12 have internal serial ROM chips that communicate with the PC via the tiny center pin in the powerr plug.

If that pin gets bent or is not making proper contact, the laptop USUALLY complains and runs from AC adapter but refuses to recharge the battery ..

I just bought a replacement 9 cell battery and a 90 watt power adapter for my Dell E1505. With the new battery and power adapter my battery indicator light keeps flashing green and the battery doesn't...

If a new DELL ac adapter (3rd party Adapters are not recognized and the charging circuit is disabled) and a new battery doesn't resolve then the charging circuit on the motherboard is bad

Dell Inspiron E1505 won't recognize new battery

It won't charge or work correctly if it's not the correct one and of the right voltage etc.I don't know how the battery even went in if it's not the Dell specified battery. If it went in and looked to fit maybe the battery itself is bad but its hard to say.

DELL LAPTOP INSPIRON 6400 MY LAPTOP BATTERY IS SHOWING STATUS ( UNKNOWN ) ON WINDOWS & ON BIOS IT SAYSS BATTERY NOT INSTALLED

Here are my recommendations for this issue:

1. Reseat the battery.
2. Remove All External Components
3. Check the battery connectors on the battery and the system. Examine the connector on the battery and the system. Make sure that there is no physical damage and that it is clear of debris.
4. Remove All External Components
5. Try a known-good battery in the system, if available.

Dell inspiron E1505 won't charge or power on period!!!

Sounds like you might have a bad dc power jack. ifyou wiggle the jack around where it plugs in on the computer, does the powr light come on?

AC Adapters in laptops

It is not a special chip that dictates if a charger can charge a certain laptop, but these two factors:

1) You need to have a power adapter/charger with the correct voltage and amps. Some common Dell laptops use 19.5V (volts) and 4.62A (amps). I have seen some Dell adapters with 3.34A (amps) as well. If you use an adapter with the wrong voltage and amperage, you could cause damage to the laptop's power supply and/or motherboard...or it just won't work at all.

2) The type of connector to the laptop. Different manufacturer's use physically different connector sizes and shapes. Some are larger and circular with a pin in the middle, while some are smaller with no pin. It depends on the laptop.

You can look at the voltage of the original charger on the brick part (the middle of the cord that looks like a brick). Make sure you get one that matches exactly.

Not charging

Make sure you are using a 4.62A Power Supply (90watt) some of the knock-offs are only 65w (3.34 A). And you will never have enough current to charge the battery.

It will only run the laptop, but not charge.

The mobo sounds like it is good, if you had a power issue, you would have orange lights or blinking, and it would not come on at all with any power supply.
