Machine Error 50 either means that there is a loose object inside the machine (usually piece of paper), or that there is a mechanical error which would need you to have the machine sent to service.

Multi-Function Center MFC-240C All-In-One InkJet Printer: i get the message "print unable 36" displayed on m...

Error code 36 is generally because of a paper jam that was not cleared. Remove the rear jam cover (the plastic cover in the back center of the machine)and the paper tray and check for any pieces of paper. Sometimes just a scrap will remain, but it's enough to cause the machine to not work.

Once you've replaced the covers, if the jam code does not reset, turn the machine off and then back on.

BROTHER MFC-240C,UNABLE TO CHANGE 50

This error is usually caused by the Carriage Encoder Strip being dislodged from
the sensor mounted on the Print Head/Carriage Assembly.

Unfortunately, you will need to remove the scanner assembly, and top cover assembly to check to see if the encoder strip has come out of the printhead assembly.

I have the same problem. Most people i asked about it said it is a mechanical problem. It's better to bring it to a brother service center near you.

What is 'print unable 51' never had a paper jam!

Do the following:

Print Unable

The machine has a mechanical
problem.
—OR—
A foreign objects such as a clip or
ripped paper is in the machine.

Open the scanner cover and remove any foreign
objects inside the machine. ( You might try cleaning the scanner glass.)
If the error message continues, disconnect the machine from
the power for several minutes and then reconnect it.

Try this and let me know what happens. Binary Bob

Brother 240c

I got one of these from a friend who couldn't get theirs to work. I got an error message that alternated between "print unable 50" and "print unable 30". I called Brother and checked on-line for a solution. Nothing helpful. So I took it apart, (after unplugging it from the power outlet), just a few screws and snap locks really, wasn't too hard. When I got the black case, the body of the MFC, off I found a clear guide ribbon that rests in a track on the back of the print head resting on top of the print-head assembly. I put the ribbon back in the track and reassembled the MFC. I think a bad paper jam pushed the ribbon out of the guide track on the print head . All the errors are gone. There are no instructions for the dis-assembly, but its not hard.

a18573f.jpg The screws, (8-10 screws in all), aren't hard to find, just the two screws hidden under the open hinge as shown here. You have to unplug some circuit connectors too. This method is best done by someone comfortable with taking the MFC apart.

Or if you have small hands, you could probably get it to catch with your fingers in the opening for the print head as shown above, but I didn't get it repaired that way. Good luck. Post the results if you try to fix it.
