Patton POH2501 The heater has begun to leak oil. The recycling rules in Eugene, Oregon allow disposal of the oil and fixture if they are separated, but not with the oil still in the fixture. How do you suggest disposing of this heater? Thanks.

Do you still have this heater? I'd be willing to take it off your hands. Actually, I'm in need of a pair of wheels for my Patton POH2501 and I can't seem to find them anywhere. Care to sell me the wheels?

Take a hole punch and knock a hole in each end, one on the top, one on the bottom and drain the oil into a 2 litre plastic bottle. Now you can recycle both!

Will the patton electric heater significantly raise my electric bill

1500 watts is 1.5 kilowatts. Run it for 1 hour and you have 1.5 kilowatt hours. My electricity costs .08 per kilowatt hour so, when I run my 1500 watt space heater, it costs me a whopping .12 per hour to operate. I can afford 12 cents per hour, compared to oil at $3.50 per gallon and a burner that burns up to 3 gallons per hour.

Does not heat up. Is there a way of opening the radiator?

Oil heaters produce no fumes or flames and feature whisper-quiet operation. Because the oil within the heater never needs to be replaced, oil-filled heaters are maintenance-free. In addition, these types of heaters are compact and portable - allowing you to carry them from room to room. Many also feature carrying handles or a set of casters for easy mobility
some of these types of heaters have a hole with a plug, that allow you to add oil, but few of these are in use today. so this being said it is most likely the heating element is failing to fully heat up the oil. parts may be found, if researched in detail on the net

also be known that the electrical componets are most likely to fail befor the oil evaporates. so look at all overheating controls and so on.

good luck,

How does one refill lakewood heater ?

These are sealed oil heaters and do not require refilling, if yours is leaking then it is bad and should be disposed of. They should not use oil or leak oil ever.

I have a patton puh682 1500 watt heater and after a while it just seems to turn off is there some kind of timer or heat control?

Under the main black knob is a bi-metal switch which shuts down the heat at various temps depending on your setting. Their is no timer.

Not heating

Sounds like either the thermostat or the element. If you hear a clicking when you rotate the thermostat you can assume that it is working. My advise is to replacethe heater. The element is sealed inside the oil chamber and the thermostat will cost almost as much as a new heater, sorry.

Space heater will power up, but not start,

These fans have a safey feature (sensor) that shuts the heater off if it is tipped over. It sounds like this component is not functioning correctly - may be set wrong and will not allow the heater to turn on unless you shake it to reset the sensor. If it is still under warranty return heater, if not call Patton and ask for help.
