Dryer hums, but won't start.
Hi, Does the dryer only hum when you push the start button?
Might be a bad motor.
Does the motor hum but, the drum doesn't turn?
Please let me know and get me a model # so I can assist you further.
Vic
I am having the same problem. At first it would only happen when the dryer was hot and running for a while. If you open the door during the cycle, and then try to start the dryer by pushing the start button, there would only be a electyrical humming noise while the button was pushed. Once the dryer cooled down, the dryer would start nomally.
Then a few weeks ago, the dryer would only start when I would open the door, hold down the door switch and spin the drum manually while someone pushed the start button. Then the dryer would work nomally for a few loads, then do the same thing.
Now the dryer will not start at all. When you push the start button, all you here is the electrical humming noise. I have read in other blogs that it may be a "start relay", Can you offer any assistance in this???

Hi Vic,
It's a Kenmore 80 Series, Super Capacity Plus - Heavy Duty, Gas Clothes Dryer. I checked the belt (replaced it a few years ago). The belt seems fine, no slipping or cracking.
When I press and hold in the start button, there is a click noise following by a low pitched buzz or just a humming noise until I release the start button. It tells me electrically, it wants to start, but for whatever reason (possibly the motor, but I doubt it), it won't turn over. I don't know if maybe lint dust clogged a sensor or something that is preventing the motor from turning over. The reason I have trouble accepting its the motor is because those things are supposed to last 30-50 years - right? This particular dryer is only about 10 years old (I think).
