Dell Inspiron 620--purchased 2012 has had problems from beginning with Power on. First, whilst still under warranty; it was the Power cord which was replaced. I have not used it, powered it on since September 2013. I just tried to power it on today==no response. I changed out the power cord--still no response. Tag on tower states it was manufactured 5/25/12. I purchased in July 2012. I have used it only 5 or 6 times. Is this particular tower known to be a Lemon? What else can I try? Warranty was up only 6 months ago...and the poor fellow is dead? Help?

SOURCE: Problems with Dell Inspiron 9400 Video Memory conflict -

This solution is totally incorrect. He is having the problem that many of us face with the GeForce Go 7900 GS and the Inspiron 9400. There is a known issue with eventual overheating and the video card going bad. This is specific to the single-pipeline chip, in which their is a new dual-pipeline style that fixes the cooling/overheating issue that eventually fries the video chip. Dell has not 100% took ownership of this. I am on my fourth fried video card (thank god for the 3-year warranty I got) in which they have previously replaced with the single-pipeline style. This time they are finally replacing the laptop with either a new Inspiron 9400 (better be dual-pipeline chip) or a NEW equivalent laptop.

SOURCE: Dimension 8400 will not boot, very loud fan.

I own & operate a computer reapair store. I recently worked on a Dimension 8400 that sounded like a jet taking off. I removed the heatsink, cleaned the heatsink & cpu, applied thermal grease & reattached the heat sink. It booted up quietly...after testing it several times...the turbo fan, jet engine sound returned! I removed the heatsink and along the upper part of the cpu I could see where the heatsink hadn't made contact with the cpu! I added more thermal grease & reattached the heatsink. It started fine on several attempts before the jet engine sound returned. I tried applying uppward pressure on the heatsink so it would close the apparent gap between the cpu & heatsink and when I pressed the power button...it started up quietly! At least I identified the source of the problem...not sure how to fix it yet.

If you purchased it new, you should be able to get the keyboard replaced under warranty. Dell's come with a minimum 1-year warranty. Give them a call and tell them the issue with the spacebar.

6 month old dell inspiron 1764 says can not identify a/c power adapter works with only the battery and works with charger will maintain around 50% but not charge

HI there,

In most instances, just as you've described yours, the culprit is usually the charger. It's not uncommon for the charging system in the charger to cease to function while the power function continues to work. This is particularly true of Dell chargers.

If the laptop is still under warranty, call Dell Support and they'll almost surely send you a new charger because this problem is considered to be a possible safety hazard.

Since Dell's standard factory warranty is for 1 year, they should be able to help you. If not, and you have to purchase a new battery on your own, be sure to purchase ONLY a Dell charger

You got a problem with the power port on your laptop.  It needs to be opened up and re-secured or replaced.  Call Dell and have them deal with it if its still under warranty.

No power from adapter

It sounds like the power jack is bad. If this is still under warranty - Dell would replace the motherboard. If this is no longer under warranty you can replace the power jack:
