Tv turns on but wont stay on.

If the power light also changes or goes off there is a problem in your TV. If the power light does not change, the TV is staying on.
Press menu to see if any words come on the screen. If they do, wait for them to go away and make sure your cable box is on.
If the cable box is on, make sure the input/source is the same as where you have something connected to the TV.

Test the PWR-ON terminal on the power supply and see if you have about 3.5 volts there

Pull the batteries out of the remote, and turn the TV on manually if you can. If it still goes off, your problem is not in the remote.

if you know some basic electronics repair just proceed to the power supply board the look for any bulging electrolytic capacitor ,sometimes not bulged but if test it with capacitance checker it was leak and need replacement.

The pump is not supposed to stay on, you should only hear it for a second or two when the ignition is turned on. At least you know the pump is working. There must be a problem in the ignition system, like no spark, do to a bad coil, ignition module, without testing it's hard to say.

sounds like one of your color tubes or a system board is failing and will have to be tested and replaced by repairman

The vcr carriage was probably damaged ( broken gear or carriage gear, etc ), As for repairing it, it may not be worth it and chances are, you won't find a new carriage for the unit. I have, in the past, disarmed the VCR unit and at least the customer could watch the TV. Thats not possible in every set, but it seems to work in the majority of them. Good Luck
