I am having problems remaining online when I'm passively downloading things. I will download overnight, but my internet connection will forget that it's connected close to an hour into the download, and I will have to restart my computer in order to reset my internet connection. I set my computer so my internet card does not shut down when my computer enters standby, but it didn't seem to help. Antivirus, firewall, and the downloader all have no setting to turn off my internet either. Only happens when I'm not actively using my computer. I have a GT5228 with nivida nforce ethernet driver.
Try changing your power settings to Always On when downloading overnight. If the machine enters sleep or hibernate mode, it will drop any active downloads.

If connected to your Internet, either cable or wireless, it may be downloading some updates. Earlier this year, the Vizio logo on mine came on with the power then dimmed out like normal (set to "off" in the settings) but the screen remained blank for more than the usual 20-or-so seconds. For some reason I just left it on after several attempts (typically not the best policy when something does not seem to be operating as expected) and, after a few minutes, it came back to life. Only then was there a message about the updates. Apparently, lack of a "Please wait for a moment while..." message seems to have been an oversight by the programmers.
Hi Mimi, If you haven't checked to make sure your computer is free of malware, sometimes it can slow down your internet downloads. Here are a few programs I'd suggest you install and run:
ESET Online Scanner (scans from the web, will take a while)
SuperAntiSpyware (download and install)
Malwarebytes (download and install)
ESET will scan your computer this one time, and may take an hour or more. SAS and MWB will reside on your computer and can be run every couple weeks. Make sure you always run the updates before you scan with them. There are always a lot of things that can effect your Internet download speed. Malware infection is just one of the common things that effects Internet Speed. Let us know a little more, like... did your connection recently slow down (used to be lot faster)? Is your computer slow overall? Or did this just start? Jon : )
Internet Explorer has nothing to do with a driver. It's just the worst browser around but Gates was smart enough to get it packaged with every system sold. You can try getting into your Internet Options in the Control Panel and set Internet Explorer back to it's default settings under the Advanced tab.
Go download some other browsers and enhance your surfing experience. Get onlineand got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Download Mozilla Firefox" (without the quotes). Download and install it from Mozilla's site. Unlike Internet Explorer, it does not take 30 minutes to install. It will be up and running in less than 3 minutes. Do the same thing for Opera and Google Chrome. Just put "Download Opera" in the google search and download and install it. Put "Download Google Chrome" in the google search and download and install it.They are faster and safer than Internet Explorer. Most times they work even when a virus has shut Internet Explorer down.
Hello, There are a number of things that can cause this, namely your internet speed. Make sure you have high speed internet with at least 10mbps download and 1mbps upload for best results. Game play can also be affected by wireless. If you are connected to your router via wireless, try using a network cable instead. If your wireless signal quality varies a lot it can cause disruptions in your connection. If you have any P2P programs running such as emule, limewire, torrents, etc... Shut them down as they tend to sap your upload speed which in turn, affects your game. If your computer is not that fast and doesn't play the game without online mode very well, it could be worse online being you are now rendering more elements into the game. Lastly, EA Servers may be over loaded at peak hours which could also affect your game play. Check your internet speed here http://www.speedtest.net and also your link quality here: http://www.pingtest.net Make sure your ping is at least below 80ms and your link quality is A or C. Any less and you may have trouble playing some online games. And again, for the speed, it's good to have at least 10mbps download and 1mbps upload. My connection is 50mbps download and 3mbps upload with ping grade A and ping 3ms, so I have never had any problems myself with online games and real-time streaming J Hope this helps! Chris
I would do 2 things. First scan for viruses. You can download Malwarebytes free HERE. Install it and let it update then run a full scan. Second download Ccleaner HERE . Install and run the cleaner which will remove junk files and temp files including your temp. internet cache and cookies amoung other unwanted junk that slows down your computer. This should speed up your connection unless you have a hardware problem which would be difficult to diagnose online. Good Luck!
Please upgrade first the version of your Windows Internet Explorer. The connection of Yahoo Messenger rely on Internet Explorer.
If you are using different web browser like Mozilla Firefox, It doesn't matter. Just install Internet Explorer 8 compatible with your operating system and do not default it as your browser.
Do this and you will find it easy to access your yahoo Messenger in just a second.
The only thing I can tell you is that you need to run a anti-virus program and anti-spyware/malware program to make sure that you computer is not infected. I have had times when my computer was so full of malware, spyware and infected files that I could have my computer access my internet connects but could not get windows internet explorer to open a website.
I would suggest downloading the following programs if you are not running them and get rid of nortopn or mcaffee:
AVG-http://free.avg.com/
A-Squared-http://download.cnet.com/A-squared-Free/3000-2239_4-10262215.html
Adaware-http://www.lavasoft.com/
spybot search and destroy-http://download.cnet.com/Spybot-Search-amp-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html
try using a different browser and see if it's doing the same thing. if you're using internet explorer, you can download firefox at www.mozilla.com or google chrome. if it's doing the same thing, the problem is with your computer, not with facebook.
