Hi, my central heating pump (Grundfos UPS 15-60) is giving me problems... - Initially it would simply not stop running when the heating was turned off. The boiler would stop but the pump would continue pumping cold water around. I had to manually switch the pump off at the electric supply. - Now if I leave the central heating on for more than an hour the pump will sometimes cut out. It feels quite hot but perhaps that is normal. Any ideas please?

Most likey problem is the diverter valve, not energising fully. This in turn will not move the little plastic lever arm that actuates the microswitch on the side, sending the signal to ignite.
You can buy a diaghram kit from most local plumb centres, you need to replace the diaghram and seals, don't forget the silicon grease to ensure the plunger doesnt stick. Kits less than a tenner.
You should have noticed before it stopped working completely the water had reduced in temperature before the weeks it failed.
To make sure it is a diverter valve fault, depress the microswitch if you can, when the hot water is flowing and hey presto the demand for hot water light should shine.

Are you able to check for power to the pump with a mult-meter. If you have power you the know the pump has siezed (flat spot on the motor) if there is no power then you know there are issues with the controls.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

it sounds like the pressure sensor or switch is bad.
