SOURCE: the HP printer is connected but the icon shows "offline"

Go to control panel, then select printers. Then, from the list of printers (if you have more than one), right click on your printer and make sure "Use printer Online" is checked.

Try to right click your printer's icon. Check if the printer is set as the default printer or check if the printer is set to function online. It will not print if it was set to function offline.
