Let me back up on the problem. I was told that changing the bulb may solve my problem. The problem that I am having on my WS-65813 is that it will only stay on for about 5 minutes then it shuts itself off. I can turn it on again, but it just does the same thing again. When it is on it has a beautiful picture. What do I need to do to fix it? Thank you for your help.

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source) 1. SOURCE: Mitsubishi WS55809 - tv won't stay on
A capcitor is losing it's performance characteristics. Mine is doing the same thing now. This happens to a lot of sets. It's as common as a tuner going out.
Electronics like constant temperatures and humidity. Unfortunately a home isn't going to have that. Also keep in mind that things are built to fail. If they don't then you have to invent something better. Inventing is a lot harder then replacing. It is certainly less expensive for the company.
TVs today usually are good for around 9 years. If they last longer then super. As there are so many different brands now you'll see a lot more inovation and claims regarding leaps in technology to keep you coming back for more. Gone are the days of quality based upon price. Now the price is all about popularity. It's the leming principle. If everybody else is jumping off the cliff then perhaps I should also, lest I miss out on something.
An old woman lives in a small rural community about 18 miles East. She called to complain that her pictures were bad. As a cable guy it was my sworn duty to go forth and see what's up... I looked over the set while the woman told the story of how she had ordered the first color tv in the area. She bought it at Western Auto and Appliance. It had a wooden cabinet and a small speaker below the old dials. She had been watching if for over 30 years. She had given up on the old girl and asked what brand she should buy to replace it. I told her to give me a little more time to look things over. I was really just curious about the set and all the adjustments you could make back then. Now you have to rely on a "technician" to fix it. Well, after giving all the knobs, switches, dials, and buttons a carefull inspection I found one small recessed button tucked away, far from any of the other adjustments. It simply said "RESET" and plain black letters. Could it be that simple?
As if God himself had directed me to this poor soul's home to bring salvation to her television viewing, I could feel the influence of some intelligence, some power, course through my body and into my hand clutching a tiny screw driver. I thrust the insignificatn implement deep in the darkness behind the word "RESET" plunging the smallest of black buttons till it would yield no more. At once an explosision of joyfull praise permiated every sqaure inch of the mobile home's living room. The 80 year old woman looked at me like I was holding a large check from publisher's clearing house. The TV was brought back to life, as if, by a miracle. Somebody sitting at a test bench in a research and delvelopment department within the bowels of RCA. decided that a "RESET" button would be a good idea. For that I am willing to bet, they were fired or promoted out of that capaicity.
So, to those of you experiencing this problem. If your set won't stay on, or if it shuts off as soon as you push the power button, I say to you go forth with credit card in outstetched hand and with the other hand cover you bum, because TVs are really expensive nowadays.

This unit will not indicate any problem without you doing something to initiate the LED diagnostic feature. Go to the front of the set and hit the power button, when that doesn't work hold the MENU and INPUT buttons on the set at the same time for 10 seconds. The power LED should start blinking a two sequence code that will repeat six times. The number of blinks will tell the general area of the problem. As an example a 2 - 2 sequence is a convergence output problem over 95% of the time.
