GE side by side. Freezer cold, fridge kinda cool

The GE fridge is 3 years old. Last year motherboard was replaced due to problems with ice dispenser and other issues (howling). Been working great. All of sudden, freezer goes from freezing to cold and fridge goes from cold to cool. Found massive amounts of frost in freezer! Defrosted fridge for 2 days and all of the frost was melted. Plugged it back in. Things seemed to be relatively back to normal (fridge still didn't seem to be as cold as it was before) but reloaded fridge. Within two weeks or so, back to the frost in the freezer and cool fridge. Checked seals around door to eliminate issue of outside moisture being the cause of the moisture. Everything looks good. Oh, by the way, I checked and the water dispenser doesn't work now! Don't know when that happened! The model of the unit is a GE GSH22JSRE SS. Please help! I have a GSS22SGRBSS GE Refrig. The Refrig section does not cool. I found the coil in the freezer completely frozen. I defrosted the coil however after another week it was completely frozen again.

Ok I am still experiencing the same issue. I thaw the coil and after a week the refrig side stops cooling. How do I test the thermistor. I have a DVM. Am I looking for a voltage or Resistance reading on the thermistor? I called GE and they would not help.

SOURCE: GE side by side. Freezer cold, fridge kinda cool

i had a similar problem, i found that the small mast on the motor turning the fan was just spinning and the fan was spinning just a little bit because it sits on there. I took the plastic fan off and put tape around the mast of the fan motor and placed the fan back on so it sat on there tightly. The fan blew cold air again because it was able to **** up the cold from the coils again, compared to when it was very loose.

Ice forming on the back of side by side 17 yr old fridge

You have a bad defrost heater . To access , you will have to remove the inside rear freezer panel . The heater is located at the bottom of the coils . Take your model number when ordering the part so you get the correct part .

Freezer is cold but not keeping icecream frozen.

If, the fresh food section is 34- 38 degrees, then the freezer should be cold enough to keep ice cream solid. All of the cooling capability comes from the freezer section. I, personally, would not waste time or money on a ten year old box. Ten years ago it cost $1000, so, the outlay is $100 per year. Dump the old refrigerator and get a new one.

GE side by side. Freezer cold, fridge kinda cool

your defrost timer is bad. this device is dual purpose, it is a small heater/solenoid that calls for the compressor to turn off so the lines can defrost (usually does it once every 48 hours or so). it looks like a round button clipped to the coil lines in the freezer behind the plastic paneling where the cold air comes out. you need to replace that part, which is actually very inexpensive compared to a new fridge. it will unclip from the coil line and the two or three wires will either disconnect or you may have to cut them and splice on the new ones from the new defrost timer. either way it is a job that will take anyone with basic hand tools less than an hour to do.

Refrigerator side won't cool

its iced up and needs to be thawed. you can use a hair dryer and make it fast in say 2 hours. the freezer side is blocked from admitting cool air to the fridge side. your defrost timer may be defective or you had a real humid situation that caused it to ice up.

Water does not dispense from door

I found that the door on the GE side by side doors are not accessable and cannot be repaired if a water line inside the door is defective. The entire door must be replaced at a cost of almost $370. The problem, which seems to be quite common relative to the lack of water at the dispenser, is the result of the water tube in the door freezing due to excess cold levels in the freezing compartment. This is probabley due to poor insulation around the water line as in exits near the ice dispenser gate. The solution is simple, lower the freezing level and use water frequently to keep it from freezing. Also, keep the lines clean by changing the filter often if the local water source is laden with particulates. I think GE should foot the bill for changing doors or re-engineer the doors to access the area where the water line makes contact with the cold surface of the inside panal.

yes. pull out the frig and look on the back. facing the back on thr right hand side there a rectangle metal plate. under that plate is the main computer board that controls the whole thing. they have been causing alot of problems one of which is the one your having. replace that board and your problem is solved
