Steam escaping from water tank with EP8001 iron

My Euro-Pro EP8001 iron (which I love) made a popping noise and steam started coming out of the plate the iron rests on over the tank. steam also started escaping around the lid at the water fill site. I had the iron on for a couple of hours when this happened. Can this be fixed? Thanks

Why is there black water in my Euro Steam Iron?

Question moved from Coffee Makers.

Has it ever been descaled? That is oxidization from the aluminium tank and sole plate upper surface.

I have a Sunbeam Steam Pro iron. Because we used normal tap water, there is a build up of calcified minerals in the water tank and the inside of the baseplate of the iron itself. The iron spits out these...

try putting straight vinegar in the water tank. Let it set until you see the deposit dissolved. Pour it out, rinse and use either some decalcified water or add a couple tsp. of vinegar to the tank each time you use it.

Euro-pro iron steam genarator model # ep8001

I have a temporary solution that is working: Use WD-40 around the switch. Spray with the straw that comes with the WD-40. Let stand for a couple days, then turn the whole unit upside down and spray again, and let it stand that way for a couple days. If we could get inside, it could be more of a sure thing, but I had given up on mine and when I accidently hit the switch after siting for the last few days, , it came on!

Now for Sears to try to locate the tool that will open the case.

EP8001 Steam generator.

Sears sells a screwdriver set (47486 is written on the handle) that has a lot of non-standard drivers. There is one on there that will fit the nuts on this unit.

Also, I used a rubber tube from an Auto parts store to replace the cracked hose. I figured the Automotive hosing was designed to withstand the heat of an engine. So, it should work on this iron.

Bring the cracked iron hose with you to the auto parts store.

Water and iron heats up but no steam comes out.

there is most likely a small port where some particles have clogged...fill reservoir with vinegar and water (50/50) and allow to soak 24 hrs, then reheat then shake vigorously to drain then rinse then retry
