Lost my right as administrator

It is a kind of mess. i have to explain it from begaining.

computer with windows vista.

1) first i tried to install microsoft office 2000 (the only micro-office i have), after installed it, the windows doesn't work properly (something like "...windows stop working..... it will be closed...."). i uninstall it. everything back to normal, as usual.

2)because i need to use micro offce software, i was thinking i can install windows XP, so i installed windows xp on my shrunk drive D. but after i installed XP, i canot access to my old  information on my vista, i even canot access to internet. i used my vista restore CD to restore my vista, but somehow i didn't get back to drive c (which is original vista on). it seems to just treat me as another user.

3)i was urge to fix my computer. i think i made another big mistake: i uninstalled windows XP, even clean the partition.

now i only can use my vista as a user, i cannot change anything. on the control panel, most items when i click it will pop up like "windows conn't access the specified device, path, or file, you may not have the appropriate permissions to access the file"

and now when i start my computer, there is always ask you something like "....  which operation system do you want to open with: 1, early version windows.  2, vista home premium.

anyone can help me with this.

many thanks inadvance.

Hi all. Is this thread still valid?

I have a problem like the above. It seem like a UAC problem in Vista. Admin rights are lost (Not valid) and no good way will bring it back. As early1234 pointed out, one can go into fail safe mode. But... It does not help to change admin right's. You allredy got them in the first place..

So... Booting and login on will render the same result as before.

    It's a Vista problem.

    1. You can execute files as long as they don't want to do anything "administrative" in your computer.

    2. You can not install or remove any program.

    3. You can not add or change any user.

Everything you do in fial safe will be undone after a reboot.

    It's like a Vista virus...

Anyway. I will crack this sooner or later..... I live on it. ;-)

    /Rols

You have done big mistake that's why you are getting problem.

1)Regarding installation of win XP over windows vista.
You have to install first lower version and then higher version i.e. you should install first win xp and then windows vista. But vice-versa you can't do it.
So my suggestion is that format your c drive then install win XP
after installation win XP install win vista.

2) which operation system do you want to open .
You can remove it using windows tweak utility software wich is freely available on most of the website. Also you can manually edit it.
For manually do this.( i m not sure about windows vista it is available or not)
right click on my computer->click on Advanced Tab->setup and recovery framework click on settings->click on Edit button
You will see the boot.ini file. You can remove the windows XP line from that file.

Lost username passwords

If you have another account on your laptop that has administrator rights, log in into that account and change the password for your account. If you have an administrator account (even if you don't try putting in Administrator and leave password field blank) try using that account to reset the password, otherwise try one of the following:
- see this for XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321305
- or this for Vista/Win7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/What-to-do-if-you-forget-your-Windows-password
- or if anything else didn't work you can use thrid party software from Hiren's Boot CD to reset your login password http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/Hirens.BootCD.12.0.zip

"Unlock the super secret Administrator account for vista"

Deep inside the bowels of Windows vista, there's a secret Administrator account, and it's different from the normal administrator account you most likely have set up on your PC. This Administrator account is not part of the Administrator group. (Confused yet? You should be.) It's a kind of superadministrator, akin to the root account in Unix, and by default it's turned off and hidden. (In describing this hack, we'll always use the capital "A" for the secret Administrator account, and a lowercase "a" for a normal administrator account.)
In versions of Windows before Windows Vista, the Administrator account wasn't hidden, and many people used it as their main or only account. This Administrator account had full rights over the computer.
In Windows Vista, Microsoft changed that. In VISTA , the Administrator account is not subject to UAC, but normal administrator accounts are. So the Administrator can make any changes to the systemand will see no UAC prompts.
Turning on the Administrator account is straightforward. First, open an elevated command prompt by typing cmd into the Search box on the Start menu, right-clicking the command prompt icon that appears at the top of the Start menu, then selecting Run as administrator — or just use the shortcut you created in the previous hack.
Then enter this command and press Enter:
Net user administrator /active:yes
From now on, the Administrator account will appear as an option on the Welcome screen, along with any user accounts you may have set up. Use it like any other account. Be aware that it won't have a password yet, so it's a good idea to set a password for it.
If you want to disable the account and hide it, enter this command at an elevated command prompt and press Enter:
Net user administrator /active:no
HOPE THIS HELPS.
