Check HP switch (red button on top pushes back down). Check power from relay to compressor. Clean condenser thoroughly.

I have a Central Pneumatic 61454 - 21 gallon air compressor. It trips breaker and wont start. If I manually turn the fan by hand while I turn the switch on it will start and run fine. Any ideas?

Question edited for clarity.

Replace the Start Capacitor. Some have a combined Dual Start/Run capacitor. The capacitor gives it a jolt to get it moving which you are doing by hand.

The start capacitor has gone bad. Needs to be replaced. That's what's inside that bump on the side of the motor.

Goodman heatpump fan runs, condenser wont start

Either the condenser fan has bad bearings, or it has a defective fan capacitor.
Turn off the breaker to the outside unit.
Spin the fan blade by hand.
If the fan blade spins easily and will spin a few revolutions with no problem the fan bearings are good.
If not, replace the fan motor due to bad bearings.
I am pretty sure you fan motor is bad because with a bad capacitor the fan motor will not get up to speed and may just sit and overheat.
I'm leaning toward a bad fan motor.

Outside unit fan does not kick on just hums and you can hear a clicking like a breaker kicking on and off.

thats a bad starting capacitor .. the capacitor is a metal rounded box about 3 inch x2 inch .. it has wires going into the fan and into the compressor .. its usually mounted near or on the compressor ... there are usually 2 capacitors in one container ..one for the compressor and one for the fan .. if the capacitor is bad then the fan and/or the compressor will just buzz but wont start .. the motor will get hot until a thermal breaker shuts off the power .. then when it cools it will turn back on and try again ... if you allow this to continue it can damage things ... the capacitors don't cost much .. you can remove your old one safely as long as power is turned off at the circuit breakers for the AC ... note where the wires go .. usually they have "pull off" connectors that are different sizes so you cant mix them up .. take the old capacitor with you to an air conditioning parts house . or get your AC make and model number and contact the manufacturer for a replacement capacitor.. you can also take all the numbers off the capacitor and order a replacement off the internet .. replace the capacitor and it should fire right up ... if you call a service man .. tell him that you suspect the starting capacitor .. that way he will bring a selection with him or he might have them with him anyhow but if he knows your make and model number then he can bring an exact replacement .. ..

My Mach3 coleman ac compressor hums but wont start. trips breaker. I replaced the start capacitor with a hard start. still wont run?

unfortunaletly the hartd start is a "last resort" and you will probably need to replace the compressor/unit... (however I have had luck physically jarring the compressor during the instant I applied power to the compressor.. sounds silly, but I have had it work more than once..) hope this helps

Please help our ac compressor wont come on

Hi, did you change, capacitor for compressor too. check compressor overload switch,(relay) normally located on compressor terminals, (where you connect wires to compressor) that's the device that goes klix when compressor goes to start, could be faulty, or maybe low voltage from your mains(house panel) check line voltage, with digital volt meter, some compressor won't start if voltage drops to low, yes fan will work, could also be, your compressor has a lock rotor, (hard start), you can buy a compressor hard start kit, from appliance store, and try to start compressor, or maybe compressor internal winding, are damage, especially now in summer, when you got a lots of voltage drops, check compressor winding, check compressor winding for short circuit, remove cover on compressor, remove 3 wires from compressor terminal, use ohm meter, put one tester lead on copper tubing that's connected to compressor, and next lead to compressor terminal, one by one, if you get beep (continuity) from anyone of those compressor terminal, you got a short- circuit in compressor, you will have to replace compressor, but if there's no short, them try hard- start kit, replace overload relay, you will see it at compressor terminal location, after you remove cover. good luck.

Compresser tries to kick on but wont

You have a bad start capacitor and the three prong device san be replaced by buying on line or going to a RV dealer and buying the three prong compressor start switch, it pulls out has three holes in it the shape of a triangle if it has a bad start capacitor you can buy one that will replace it without taking out the old capacitor. If you want a web site where they sell these post on this answer and I will send you the address of the parts store that sells them.
