My canon sd950is wont turn on. i thought it was the battery so i bought a new one, 40 dollars, and it doesnt work either, both batterys charge n hold a charge but the camera wont turn on. the picture view button wont turn on either. i just bought the camera like in january. do i bring it in to u guys or just send it to canon, the warranty should be good still right? ps im in kuwait right now hope to be home in a month. can u help> the camera wont turn on! We had it for 2yrs the lins will slide 1/2 way then back to the camera
If you bought the camera in January, it's still under warranty for a year. When you get home call 1-800-OK-CANON to arrange warranty repair. They're usually very good about it, and will try to make things right.

This kind of problem happen because not all of AAA batteries in market are match with canon standards. so changed his mind about using disposable batteries on new models. your camera need new DC/DC board which is expensive(between 50 to 90 dollars). there is video in you tube to how replacing the board. But better suggestion is getting a new camera with chargeable battery.
Yes I get something similar with my Panasonic camera just because I take the battery out when the camera is waiting for the next outing, but it is ok as soon as I set the clock and if I leave the battery in. From what you said then perhaps the internal battery is faulty but if you don't usually leave the battery in, you could try leaving the battery in for a few days to see if that restores some power to the internal battery.
I just bought a Canon Camcorder that has some sort of code that won't let it charge up while in the camera and plug in to the house outlet, unless it is made by Canon. Maybe Sony is doing the same thing. A new Sony battery goes for $40 to $50. Cheaper than $200 (if it works).
That can be from a few causes such as the fuses blowing. It is worth fixing if you have warranty but may cost as much or more than a replacement camera if you are no longer covered..

Might want to take a look at this: http://canoncanada.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/11506/session/L3Nuby8xL3NpZC9FVFAyZDdCag A screw inside some Canon PowerShot SD950 IS cameras may loosen and fall out due to vibration that is generated while carrying or using the camera. Apparently a screw might have come out that prevents the camera from turning on.
The repair is free-of-charge, even fro out-of-warranty period.
I think it helps.

Camera will not power on. Canon posted a bulletin regarding a possible solution for some SD950's at the following website. Apparently this model has a screw that can come loose inside and the camera will not power. They just found this to be the case with my SD950, and they fixed it for free. It was outside of the warranty by a couple months. They even sent me a prepaid UPS shipping label to send them my camera for repair. See the link below for more on this possible solution:
Try this: with the battery installed and battery door open, take a pencil, fine tip screwdriver, or anything long and skinny and push the tip of it into the little nub circled in the picture here. There's a spring inside that little nub... keep the spring depressed and try to turn on the camera. If it works, then either a small piece of plastic broke off the battery door or the nub got broken/pushed in too far for the battery door to trigger it. Try using a dab of hot glue to keep the nub pushed into the down position.
