I have lost sound on my Dell XPS M2010

I have suddenly lost all sound from my Dell XPS M2010, I think this happened directly after an update that I carried out on my Logitech Quikcam. I have uninstalled Quickcam and tried and then reinstalled Quickcam and tried but still no sound. I have tried the Playback controls and it is currently playing back via the Digital Output Device (S/PDIF).

Yes have restarted the machine still no sound unfortunately.

since you uninstalled the program, have you restarted your computer?

this issue is possible caused by the sound driver is locked into use by the webcam and other resources/players cannot access it.

Yep - this I run into every start up, or every awake session from Standby - the problem is that the default sound device changes - I've gone through the control panel, and put a shortcut to the Sound mechanism in my taskbar - then when it changes, I just modify back to the Speakers/Headphones setting - I usually have to change stations on Pandora, or skip to a new Youtube, but it all works our very quickly.

XPS M2010 boots in and everything works but fans

You can try installing this program that controls the fans on a Dell laptop. If this does not work you have a hardware issue with either the fans or the main board.http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html

My dell xps M2010 laptop is not working with the battery but it comes on when i plug in the ac adaptor charger. when i checked the bios setting it says battery not recognized and later, when i turned on...

Hello and thank you for using Fixya's services.

Your power adapter is bad and is not able to charge the battery at all (which is why the battery is dead). Yes, this is common with laptops because of the constant plug in and plug out. Yo can purchase a new adapter for less than $25.00 on eBay. Anywhere else it will cost three times more.

Once you replace the adapter, the battery will get a full charge and you will be up and running again.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I will assist.
