My PS3 won't read anything

Try go into sound settings and change it back to your surround sound. It happens to me all the time.

unplug your ps then turn back on this resets it try that ok;

you have to change your laser lens, thats probably what's wrong since your ps3 does not recognize the game when you insert it, you can chage it your self by buying a new laser lens for your ps3 if you do make sure to specify your playstation3 system i.e: Playstation 3 80gb or Playstation 3 SLIM 250 gb

sounds like a dead Laser they are a dual laser will read DVDs n CDs but wont read Blueray movies or PS3 games Laser might need replacing

Id probably bring it to game-stop or have someone else come to your house to fix it

try playing a blu-ray movie if it wouldn't play blu-ray movies or PS 3 games you laser is bad. I you need help changing it I can email you detailed instructions.

Try playing a Demo game, if you dont have any download it from playstation network. The point is just to force the sytem to play games and if you notice, movies and games are listed under a different folder in the icon's list, so playing a demo game will force the system to play the game and you should be able to play your games fine after that,. Thing is that a game's info might've got stuck in freeze mode when the system was shut off unproperly while a game disk was still inside, that's all. Good luck, dont wanna see any PS3 comrades suffering the unspeakable horridness of not been able to play games. Be strong my friend.

Try another game see if it loads, im assuming it stopped playing the game, froze, or gave some sort of error right?
