Microwaves do normally 'turn on', in that the light comes on and the fan starts running. If the turntable starts turning and it is emitting microwave energy, then you need to take it for service or replace it. To me, it sounds fine.
It sounds to me that your door switches aren't working.Your oven is protected by a couple of switches that engage when you open or close the door. They control a couple of safety features and also your interior light. One of them seems defective.
There is a switch on the door, If it is not closed completely, the microwave generator will not turn on. If this switch is bad the generator will not work, but the lamp and fan will turn on. murf427
Check the door switches with digital meter, usually find one bad one. Set meter to ohms and test, some will be normally open and others closed, check with the door open and closed.

If the Fuse blows when the door is opened. (not even energizing the microwave) The bottom micro switch (monitor micro switch) is normally closed, (open when the door is closed) however if it remains in the closed state when the door is open you will have a short circuit with the Primary Micro switch. The circuit diagram shows that one of the two switches must be open. I was able to test with an ohm meter. With a bad switch the reading was less than an ohm with the door open and 290 ohms with the door closed - Across the plug with a good fuse. With the new micro switch the resistance shouldn't change by much with the door open or closed.
The problem with your microwave's touch pad needs some simple troubleshooting steps to rectify the problem.
1 Check the power supply. Make sure the microwave is firmly plugged into a working electrical outlet and that your wall outlet is active if your home uses outlets controlled by a wall switch. Check your home's fuses or circuit breakers to ensure they have not been tripped. Without power the microwave will not respond to any input.
2 Make sure the parental lock is inactive. Some ovens, like the one shown in the image above, feature a keypad lock to prevent children playing with the controls. Most keypad locks can be cancelled by holding down a button or combination of buttons for a few seconds.
3 Make sure the door is firmly closed. Some microwave ovens will not allow any control panel input if the door is open.
4 Remove the microwave from the power, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in. This will reset the microwave oven if there is a temporary problem with the software.
5 Press the "Stop/Cancel" button several times to cancel the current operation and return the microwave to standby mode. Re-enter your cooking instructions using the keypad as usual.
the microwave does not weigh things. you need to know the weight for things like auto defrost. 1 pound ground beef... enter auto defrost ..10 will read 1.0 ... 1 1/2 pounds... enter 15 ..reads 1.5.... 1/2 pound enter 5...reads 0.5 . unit beeps half way through heating program.. open door.. turn meat over close door. will continue to defrost
