I have an HP Envy M6-1184CA that I got just a little over a year ago and it was working perfectly, until up about a month ago, when it just randomly started to do 'thermal shutdowns' when I play my games. It normally does get hot when I play games, and can easily reach 65-72 degrees Celsius when I play my games. I use a cooling pad and I remove the battery when I play the games. For the months that I had it where it wouldn't shut down, it would reach those temperatures and it would be perfectly fine. It wouldn't bother me about anything. Now, about a month ago, it started this problem for no reason. The temperatures could actually be LOWER (60 degrees) and it'll do a thermal shutdown which is extremely annoying because a game can be loading and not making the laptop generate a lot of heat and it'll do a thermal shutdown. Sometimes it'll hibernate, but most of the time it just turns off very suddenly. I know for a fact that it isn't overheating, as it has been much hotter in the past and it didn't do anything unusual. I know the heat can damage the system, and when it finally craps out, I'll get a desktop system, but that shouldn't be happening now. I did take off the keyboard and removed the CD drive to blow compressed air inside, but that hasn't helped. I have the laptop sitting on a dual-fan cooling pad made out of some kind of metal to draw away heat and the fan vents on the laptop are completely unblocked. As far as I know, there is no dust inside the machine. When I went to blow compressed air into the laptop, I tried to take it apart, but the instructions I followed were extremely unclear and I could only get as far as taking out the optical drive and removing the keyboard. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Repeated high temperatures are terrible for computers you should check the fans or have someone check them. If those are fine it might be a motherboard or processor problem.
Testimonial: "I'm not sure if it would be the processor or the motherboard because I think it'd be more of a firmware issue as I did update the BIOS recently. The fans are fine, they operate properly and they move a lot of air through the system. Right now, I have re-adjusted the position of the laptop on the cooling pad and it's a lot cooler than normal. The CPU is sitting at 25 degrees right now and the GPU is sitting at 32 degrees, because I'm watching some videos. What wouldn't make sense to me is why would they put powerful hardware in a laptop that wouldn't be able to handle the heat production? This laptop has a powerful GPU that produces a large amount of heat when any kind of medium to large load is placed on it. The CPU never reaches more than 45 degrees Celsius under load, it's the GPU that reaches degrees of 65-70 degrees."

SOURCE: will overheat and shut down during game play
This is a great peice of software that will cure your problem with overheating on a Dell laptop. You still need to clean out the heatsink and fan to get optimal performance. Share it with your gaming buddies that have a Dell laptop.

Testimonial: "I have not had a problem since I installed this software. However the automatic fan control was kind of buggy."
SOURCE: random shutdown for no reason
blast compressed air into the vent on the upper right hand side or back. I had the same problem. It was due to dust buildup on the cooling vents. The vents are connected so if you blast the air through the back you should see the dust shooting our the side.

yeah ...you might have done some shortcuts on the key board ...cause indeed when its shuts down by error ..its shows the blue screen ...and the error...either you hit by mistake a combination ...or ...it was from the power saving mode...or ...from the antivirus scanning ...a presenting to turn of the machine after finished scans...or ..from downloading ..for example utorrent has settings to turn off computer when the download is finished....just whatch it carefully and remember what you was running when t does that
