Player can be made to work without remote. But it is a pain.
You need to press pause then play in the right combination.and you can get both DVDs and Blu Ray disks to work. I bought a store floor model that did not have a remote. I got an Onkyo RC-717M remote control. It is the remote that comes with the Onkyo TX-SR706 receiver. It is a learning remote. When i entered the cde for the Samsung Blu-Ray it did the same thing as the other remotes I got from Onkyo, the pause, next / previous track buttons wouldn't work for the Samsung BD-P3600. I used the learning function of the new remote and programmed it to work. It works ok now but it sure was a hassle to get it done. In fairness i should have called Onkyo support but their support hours don't match my schedule.
