Do I have a bad dmd board?

Hi. I have a samsung hl-r6167w 61 in hdtv. Recently my tv was locking up just after I turned it on.(no remote functions) It would freeze right after the menu came up. Also the screen would display green and black horizonal lines. The audio is always fine, but the screen would freeze on a single image. the problem steadily got worse over a period of a few weeks. I replaced my color wheel and that fixed the problem for about 2 days. Now I'm back where I started. Any thoughts??? Thanks Dave. PLEASE HELP email me at [email protected] if you know how to fix this problem. My menu's freeze and I have the green static.. BUT the picture is perfectly clear when I use my my HDMI input for my dvd player. It's only the cable/TV mode with the problem

How do you do that? Is there a picture of how to open this slot up and check this? Or a description?

    Vortash,

If I unplug my TV a couple times when the problem is occuring, the problem goes away. But then it comes back again at some point when I turn it on again in the future.

What piece controls the TV programming. I think it is a bad programming issue because resetting the TV by unplugging it seems to fix it?

    Thanks

The only solution I have found is to unplug the TV and plug it back in 1-5 times to reset it back to the normal settings, then it works fine. Is this bad for the TV? I've heard it may make the bulb pop or cause some type of power overload maybe, is that true? Is it OK if I just unplug the TV like this before I turn it on to begin with? Is that less risky for making the bulb pop etc. It also fixes it this way if I just unplug it a few times before I start the TV up.

Hi Dave I am Vortash if you replaced the Colour wheel and the problem went but then has returned I think it may just be a bad connection on the board check the ribbons from the lcds are secure and the plug slide that holds them in is all the way closed , also check the rest of the circuit for dry joints , I dont think this is as bad as you fear .. Regards Vortash

Hi the slide is on the end of the ribbon you re-attached to the main circuit board when you changed your colour wheel there are 3 of them , to do that you would have had to take off the main board to get at the wheel underneath . The ribbon I mean is the ones going from the Red Green and Blue Lcd's they are configured together by the lens in front of the prism ,...You could probably down load a free manual for this set ( service Manual ) from http://www.eserviceinfo.com and this will explain all especially if you check out the exploded view of the machine it will show you all the component modules ...Regards Vortash

Hi Dave I have searched again and the only manual with this chassis is from Warzone at $19.50 as it is a relatively new one ( or one they are still producing ) so manuals are scarce .
But from what I have read of the different sets on here that utilize the same remote ( therefore I am assuming the same control IC's )they all give the shutdown for 30 second command for irregular channels and tuning .. so I am of the mind it is the processor IC that is not locking on .. I have not been able to find a circuit so I am steering in the dark .. but I should imagine it will be a surface mounted IC and not removable unless you have the correct equipment .. I have found your set on the Samsung site however it only offers user manual downloads and none for the service manual paid or otherwise .I think It may be costly to dedicate the fault to a complete module if it is only a single component on the board . However I appreciate your problem of being miles from a service center , and only wish I could give you a definitive answer but I think without looking at a diagram I could cost you more work and expense for nothing . It would be easier to just say yes replace boards 1 or 2 for example but I would be failing you if I did so .. I will try and contact Samsung uk and see if they can help me for you if that bares no fruit .. I think it has to be an engineers task to help you actually looking at the set . Sorry I cant help you any better regards Vortash

Hi Dave sorry for not getting back to you before but I have had a dose of this ruddy flu .. I did ask Samsung and they in their ininate wisdom said that they do not advocate untrained personel touching the circuits of their systems .. I explained that you where in the difficult posistion of being miles from nowhere and their reply was and I quote " He got the set from somewhere so there must be a service center nearby " with this I am afraid I just called the guy a dork and put the phone down .. as it was obvious they had a set retteric for this .. I could not glean any further information out of him other than he thought that there was a kit for this fault as it was a common one .. that would indicate to me that the fault is still on the power board and that is what is indeed needing repair or replacement hope this is of help sorry I couldnt do more . I would have willingly popped round to fix it but it would be a bit of a jaunt from Plymouth UK to do this lol I hope you find a solution soon regards Vortash ..

TV won't get light to screen??

If you hear the color wheel and then see the lamp actually light up you most likely have a bad DMD board. The part number is either BP96-00678B or BP96-00678D it depends on the chassis you have in your TV. The parts are available through http://www.samsungparts.com

Same problem

You have two options only. One is to pay a trained Samsung tech to replace the DMD bd which takes a Tech to properly align the DMD bd and takes some time or you can replace the entire Engine which is more expensive but quicker and easier. Wish had good news for you.

Samsung DLP HL-R6167W - works fine for about 5 seconds then the screen freezes, sound goes out and then goes black then comes back on by itself and repeats the whole process. No blinking error lights.

There are three possible parts causing the problem. First, the Main or Digital bd is bad, Second, the DMD bd is bad. Third the Color Wheel is bad. You need a trained Samsung tech to have a look at it.

Do I have a bad dmd board?

It sure does sound like it. Normally I replace the entire light engine at the same time because as you know this is a problem with DLP's.The replacements come complete, DMD - Color Wheel, the whole nine yards, makes the job easier. Good Luck..

T.v. will not turn on. flahes "lamp" then no picture!

This will have to be narrowed down to a specific problem. I would try the easiest things first. First check the lamp. Is it bad or just starting to go bad or does it just need to be reseated with the ballast? If the ballast flickers when turning on your TV, then you will know it is the lamp that is not working or the ballast may need to be replaced. If that is not the problem next check to see if the color wheel is spinning or broken. If broken, it will need to be replaced. If not spinning it is the DMD board that is bad. The color wheel is plugged into the DMD board. If the DMD board is good it will spin the color wheel, that is what will start your lamp. When you lamp starts, you have your picture.
