Slow receipt of fax

Presumably, no -one has changed any settings on the machine. If the problem occurs on all received faxes, I would suspect the tel line. The machine automatically slows down the data reception to the slowest speed necessary to receive clean data. What that means is, there is unacceptable noise somewhere on the line, due to a bad connection between the machine and the tel pbx. To check this, try a different location, either the previous one or even a different jack in the office.

Smart ring

Good question. I thinking your service provider (Bellsouth, Western Bell, etc..) might know this. I'm sure they have run across this before. I know that your fax machine will need to support this feature. For example, Brother Fax machines have a Distinctive Ring function on them for just this purpose. Do you have your use manual for your fax machine? It should tell you if it supports Distinctive Ring.
