Motorola original batteries can be found online. Please be aware the original manufacturer date is a while ago so they have been on shelf a while even if new.

Does the light associated with the hard drive flicker, stay on and then fade sometimes? If so - then the hard drive is working and the likely problem is a faulty screen. You can also try the function key plus whatever F key would increase screen brightness. (i.e. Fn + F7 on my machine.)
It is possible that the mic hole is blocked and the voice do not detect properly to be processed.
clean and check if not the mic might be faulty , use a new one and test as this is inexpensive. if not the preamplifier of the mic or the amplification stages of the mic is faulty.
A good signal test can prove corrrect.
