Create Desktop Shutdown/Lock/Restart/Hibernate Shortcut Icons In Vista

1. Right click an empty area of your Desktop
2. Select New>> Shortcut
3. In the text box titled: "Type the location of the item:" Enter the Command for the particular shortcut you would like to create. I've listed all of the commands below that activate their respective shortcut:
Hibernate rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll,SetSuspendState
Lock Rundll32.exe User32.dll,LockWorkStation
Restart Shutdown.exe -r -t 00
Shutdown Shutdown.exe -s -t 00
Sleep rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState Sleep
4. Once you've entered the command, click "Next"
5. Vista will now ask you what you would like to name your shortcut. I've always just given it the name of its function (EG: Shutdown or Shutdown System).
6. Once you have named you shortcut, click "Finish". Your new shortcut will now reside on your Desktop. Simply double click the icon to activate the command.

Note: If you do not like the look of the "default" icon that Vista has given it, you can change the icon to a different one. Here's how:

1. Right click the shortcut icon
2. Select Properties
3. The shortcut properties window will now be displayed. Click the "Change Icon" button.
4. The "Change Icon" window will now appear. Here, you can select from the many available system icons. Click the icon that you would like to use as your shortcut icon and then click OK.

Your Desktop shortcut icon will now revert to the selected system icon.

That's it! Have fun!

How to restart or shutdown a computer through a remote desktop connection

When you are connected to another computer by remote desktop, did you ever notice that the shutdown and restart options are not there. The computer that you remote desktop to must already be on. But if you regularly use remote desktop, at some stage you will want to restart the remote computer from where you are. For example you might install a program and you need to restart the computer to finish the installation. If this doesn't happen automatically then you can follow the steps below.

How to Reboot or Shutdown a Machine from Remote Desktop Connection using Windows XP?
  1. Open the run box by pressing the WINKEY and the letter R on the keyboard.
  2. Type the following command into the run box: shutdown -r -f
  3. Press Ok.
  4. This will restart the remote computer.
If you would like to shutdown the Windows Xp remote computer you can type: shutdown -f
When you are typing these commands in you must type it exactly right. If you miss a space or a dash it will not work.

Restart a remote computer using Windows Vista or Windows Seven.
On these newer operating systems the run box is almost obsolete. You only have to open the start menu and type these commands into the search bar at the bottom. This area acts as a run box and you can type commands into this.

How can i reboot my computer please

Rebooting a computer means, pressing the Reset/Restart button. But if you wish to securely restart it, click Start (Windows XP) and then "ShutDown" button, again click "Restart". There's another option when Windows XP is in Classic mode, once you press the Shutdown button, you'll see a small window showing "Shutdown", you can click the arrow button next to the "Shutdown" and then select "Restart", now click the "Ok" button to restart the system. In Windows Vista and Windows 7, click "Start", if you don't see the "Restart" button, you might be seeing the "Shutdown" button, just next to the "Shutdown" button, there's a small right arrow button, click it and select "Restart". Your system will restart.
Let me know if you need further help.
Good Luck.
