Satelite tv through my dvr-550h

Hello. I can watch and listen to chaneles frommy satelite tuner, but I coannot change the chanels using the recorder's remote contorl. Is this normal, or is it possible to achieve? I think it would be useful, because I mostly watch satelite TV, and when I want to record sometning from the satelite tv tuner, I have to watch the programme I'm recording, as well as hacing to set the chanel with the tuner remote. I can only use the recorder's remote to change the chanels of the 'public' tv (the one which is available for everyone), which I don't need.
Can you tell me what to do? In this situation I cannot even set any recordings, unless I'm at home watching the thing I'm recording... :(
HELP PLEASE
thanks in advance
Kate from Poland

Satellite tuners and DVDs have different remote, unless your using a universal remote with satellite tuner command available.to program recording, you'll need to program the time especially the allotment.then make sure you sat tuner is tuned to the station you want to record.after setting the time and station, its all set.you don't need the DVD's remote to change the channel.

Why cant I change channels when recrding 2 progs?

Hello Anonymous,
You did not specify if you are using a DVR capable cable/satellite box, which I what I presume is the case. That DVR has two tuners in it - each tuner allowing you to watch and/or record two programs at one time and in any combination. If both of those tuners are used for recording then you cannot watch another "live" stream as there no available tuners to tune and display (or stream to the DVR hard drive for recording). You can only switch between the two recording programs.
As a side note, if your TV has a built-in tuner, you can split the cable and have one going to the DVR and the second run going to the TV set. You can then use the TV's built in tuner and watch what anything it can get. It won't get scrambled digital cable but will get analog and Clear QAM channels.

You can select this in the menu.

My tv want change chanels

If you are talking about the remote ----make sure you are on TV to change. If you are using the remote with a cable provider or satelite, make sure you have everything on the correct settings to run it all off of the remote. If the channels still don't change and you try the side of the TV to change manually. If that doesn't work --it is your TV tuner is bad.

Can you recording satelite tv with external tv tuner thru s-video cable?

It is possible to record but it recommends more time.
So its helpful that you record via only satelite tv .and then transfer to your pc.

We just dvrs hooked up a few weeks ago.when I am recording somthing down and my daughter goes upstairs to watch her tv and tries to change her channel to watch somthing a message comes up on the tv that...

Hi, poog_23350, I caught your post! How a Duo DVR receiver works is that the TV you have it set to record on will not allow you to change the channel while the recording is in progress. The other TV, that isn't recording anything, can be used freely to flip through channels.

In this case, it's TV2, the one upstairs in your daughter's room, that's currently set to record on while the downstairs TV is free to use. This can be adjusted by pulling up the Main Menu with the Menu button on the remote, selecting option 8, then option 5, and changing the TV1/TV2 setting there on the Record Plus screen.

If you'd like a receiver capable of allowing channel changing while recording a program, our VIP 612 receiver is a Solo receiver that acts like a Duo. What this means is that it has one TV output and two tuners. Along with being able to change channels while a recording is in progress with this type of receiver, you can also record two programs on two different channels simultaneously.

Hope that helps!
