Bought a PS3 today. Got it home connected it up, but no sound. We have a 42" Hitachi Plasma. Connected the PS3 using our HDMI lead, but no sound. Even when we were going through the operating instructions there was no sound. We swapped the HDMI lead for the audio leads (red, white, yellow), but still no sound. We have a brill picture and the setting is 1080i and on channel RGB1 and the setting is DVI-STB. Can you help.

I have a Samsung 50" DPI 1080, I use my HDMI cable for video & the fiber optic cable for sound through my yamaha amp. I have a samsung HDMI DVD player hooked the same way. All I did is move the cables down to the playstation 3, which gives me a picture but no sound! No matter what setting use on the audio set up it is still silent--please help is it my amp not reading the new signal ( it says DTS & Dolby digital on the front)?I have a Samsung 50" DPI 1080, I use my HDMI cable for video & the fiber optic cable for sound through my yamaha amp. HI
Try restarting, check that every connection that should be connected is connected.
Especially the scart connection, they have a tendency to cut out the sound or colours.

Rick:
simply unplug--then replug--your HDMI cable. Or also go into the audio setup menu and reapply the "automatic" setting for HDMI to get the sound to work. I don't know if Sony can do anything about this or not in a firmware upgrade, but what it can do is try to simplify the labeling on some of the sound settings.
Let me know
I wish i had have known it was the lighting ingines as i went and diverted power directly through positive and negative from another source elimenating the need for the 2 circuit boards for the lighting
I have had this problem once before and it was because my sound output was was set to the (yellow white red) and so what you have to do is go to Sound Settings then go to Audio Output Settings then what your going to choose is HDMI then it will ask for what method and just select Automatic, then you should be able to here sound threw your tv.
I have a42hds52a and someone threw something at the screen and broke it. so I am looking for someone who is willing to get rid of thier tv or looking to buy one for parts. call Richard At916-308-9272 [email protected]
IF you are saying that every thing is connected properly check your video cable it could be bad use a new one if that does not rectify your problem it is time to call in the tech you could be having problem in your video circuit but you did not mention if the screen light up with no picture but with sound or it does not light up blank with sound.however there could be two things 1 if the screen lightup with normal sound it could be a leaky ,open, or shorted, transistor or ic in the IF circuit.2 If the screen does not light up and has normal sound it could be a defective horizontal stage.so it is time you take the set to a tech for repairs.good luck.
