SOURCE: Oil capacity for craftsman air compressor circa 1978 model #106..

I have a 2hp craftsman air compessor with a two cylinder pump, Here is the info from my manual as far as oil capacitity:

Remove oil fill plug and slowly add
a compressor oil until it is even with the
top of the oil fill hole. NOTE: Do not
allow oil to be lower than 3/8"
from the top at any time. When filling
the crankcase, the oil flows very slowly
into the pump. If the oil is added too
quickly, it will overflow and appear to
be full. NOTE: Crankcase oil capacity is
approximately 16 fluid ounces.

I buy my compessor oil from Lowes in the tool department. It comes in 16oz and sells for about $3. I wouldnt worry about how many ounces it holds but rather that the oil level is to top of filler hole. Lowes also sells a synthetic oil for about $7 and is recommended for severe conditions (hot / cold / used all day). Good Luck!

SOURCE: air compressor air intake blows out hot air and wont build up psi

its either a reed valve broke or corroded beyond function.remove the head and look at the plates.look at the piston rings while your in there sounds like its just worn out,but i just rebuilt mine for 80 bucks thats all the gaskets plates and piston with sleeve.the repair takes about an hour.if you do tackle this yourself remember the fan for the air cooling may be reverse thread.try not to break it.noone mentioned this to me but i got lucky and tried the other way before i got serious about removing it.good luck

Why doesn't my rockworth compressor fill up when it's running it's brand new

This could be an assembly error at the company. There are three valves in a compressor, one is an intake, one is an exhaust, one is an unloader. The easiest way to check is to put your hand on the intake air filter to check for suction. If there is suction then the valve is ok on the intake, if it flutters then it is bad or missing. Locate the on off switch and there should be a valve that unloads the pressure from the compressor, see if that is leaking.

Why won't my compressor start?

If it's new I would return it. However that model number 16638 is for a Huffy Bicycle.

I have a craftsman model 919.167812 2 stage that builds about 5 lbs of air in 3min

Lee, if it has a drive belt, that belt may be slipping. You may also have a significant air leak, or your intake air filter may be BADLY plugged, or your compressor head may be completely worn out.

Hi Jim,

Disconnect your main air supply from the comp head to the receiver/tank and see if their is a reasonable air supply to atmosphere.

If not check that air is being taken in by the head intake filter

3gal craftsman horizontal compressor wont build pressure

Without knowing specifics of your unit, If there are three reeds, then two are probably for intake and one for exhaust. Intake reeds should be on the piston side of the valve plate, discharge reed should be on the head side.

There should be a divider in the head side to separate the inlet from the discharge. Make sure the valve plate is turned so that the air from the air filter side goes to the side with the intake valves, and the air from the discharge valve should go to the side with the pipe to the tank.

My 5hp 22gal craftsman compressor wont go above 30lbs pressure

The piston cylinder has become gouged or the piston seal has folded. Go to a Sears parts place and ask for a replacement piston assembly for a 5HP. They sell for about $40 and take all of 15 minutes to install. Buy a torx set while you are there if you don't own one, as you will need one to replace the assembly.

You will be back at 120PSI in no time. Be sure to keep the intake filter in clean condition, as dirt is really bad for compressors.
