Before looking for a replacement charger, try this:

1. Remove charger from power socket
2. Remove battery
3. Hold the Power On button on the laptop about 10 seconds (while the battery is removed), and release
4. Plug in the charger to the laptop and power socket (without battery)
5. Try to turn on the laptop

Check also that all the cables from the charger are connected firmly.

If this doesn't work, you will need to replace the charger. Take the laptop with you, so you can try the new charger on the spot to be sure.

SOURCE: Dell latitude D600 battery charge light flashing

You have a ground fault issue in the DC JACK.

There are escentially 4 circuits in the jack and one is not making contact.

1: Negative Charge circuit (outter ring)
2: Negative Run circuit (outter ring)
3 Positive (Inner Ring)
4: Signal (center pin)

I believe the negative charge circuit (outter ring) is not making contact internally. Typically what happens on that model DC Jack is the tension contact metal becomes fatigued, and does not touch the outter ring.

This could come from Heat causing early fatigue of the metal.
Or normal wear, the metal has simply worn out from regular insert/removal.

SOURCE: dell inspiron 6000 not charging

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000, and so does my wife. One day coming back from the airport, the power adapter cord(the end that plugs into the laptop) was hanging out the door and was dragging on the ground. Well the end was unusable and I was out looking for another AC adapter. Dell wanted $80 for a new one, but I found one on ebay for $40. But once I got it, I found that it would power my laptop, but wouldn't charge my battery. I thought, I know the old one works, so I cut the end off the ebay one and wired it onto the original one but ended up with the same result. Called the ebay seller and turns out these AC adapters are dell seconds. They claimed to test them and offered to send me another one and did so. By that time the new one from dell dropped to about $40 so I just bought it too anyways. The new dell one worked and the second one from the ebay seller did the same as the first one he sent me. I found out that the dell laptop wont charge the battery if the supply goes below 19.5V. By me hacking the other end on the original AC adapter, didn't result in the best insulated connection from the other wires. Also, if anyone know anything about AC adapters, is that they have a "Step Down Transformer," and the company that makes them, low balls the windings so that if they are off on the voltage, they are under, and not over, thus not frying the more expensive laptop. My suggestion to you is to just pick up a new AC adapter from dell. Also, the rubber coating on the cord is pretty soft and splits easily.

SOURCE: problem in charging of dell

If the charging LED is on but the battery is not charging then the battery may be worn out.
Ifthe laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall. ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. Ifthe battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to bereplaced.

My DELL Insiron is not charging

Hello, If the battery won't charge and the laptop won't turn on but the ac adapter works with other laptops, then the problem is the port where you plugin the ac adapter. Some of the laptops has it built in to the motherboard. So you might need to have it repaired by a technician. Or if the laptop is still in warranty, you might need to send it to the manufacturer to have it repaired or replaced. But if the laptop works without the battery, or it will turn on but the battery indicator is not lighting up, you're facing one of these problems.
1. The battery itself is dead.
2. the battery bay is loose
3. the battery itself is loose
Hope this helps...

My Dell Laptop syas that my battery is charged. But when I remove the ac power cord the computer immediately shuts down.

Hi there,

I repair laptops professionally and work on many Dells. Here are the possibilities.

1. The plugin connection where the battery meets the charging contacts in its bay where it seats are malfucntioning and the software is reading it incorrectly. To see if this is so, push the small round black button on the battery next to the 5 little dots at one end. If none of those dots light up green, the battery has no charge and the connection I spoke of above is damaged or malfunctioning beyond where you can see. If all the dots light up green, the battery is likely fine but the laptop can;t connect to its charge at the plugin.

2. The basic software (BIOS) is reading the charger/adapter incorrectly and although saying it is charging or charged, the actual charger is ruined inside in the compartment for charging the battery. Dell chargers can actually be incapable of charging the battery but still run the computer on direct current while plugged in.

3. The battery is no longer able to be charged, but is giving a false reading.

4. The DC Power Jack (into which you plug the charger) is only partially damaged and while able to power the laptop directky, cannot charge the battery. (Check to see if it is loose and woobly when you plug in the charger.

The easiest and least expensive way to troubleshoot and fix this yourself is to start with the charger. They can be had on eBay for about $20. Keep in mind that if no green lights show up on the battery, it might be your first choice and it's about the same price.

I hope I've given you enough info the help you determine your true problem.

Regards,

The Selkie

I am Using HP dv 4 I have a problem that when i plugin the ac adopter it shows that it is plugeed in but not charging

Shut down the system. Take the battery off. Leave it for half an hour. Re-connect the battery and plug-in. Charging stops if the processor fan is being blocked. Use surfaces like table to use ur laptop. Don't use it on bed.
If problem persists contact service centre.

Will not charge the battery or input any power. The battery is fine. I think its a loose connection internally where the power adaptor/charger plugs in. need a manual to show how to dissasemble and replace...

Here's a direct link to the service manual for this laptop:
http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01293339/c01293339.pdf

Based on my experience troubleshooting such kinds of problems, you will need to get the motherboard out of the case to be able to replace or tighten the power connector.

Dell 9400 wont show AC power icon

If the computer is connected to an electrical outlet, the about10.jpg light operates as follows:
  • Solid green: The battery is charging.

  • Flashing green: The battery is almost fully charged.

If the computer is running on a battery, the about41.jpg light operates as follows:
  • Off: The battery is adequately charged (or the computer is turned off).

  • Flashing orange: The battery charge is low.

  • Solid orange: The battery charge is critically low.
Looks like the AC adaptor is faulty.

Labtop not charging

Try removing the battery and see if the laptop powers on. If it still doesn’t power on then either the motherboard is defective or the AC adaptor may have a broken wire in the cable.
