Check the FAX cable and make sure it is a FAX cable. There should be only 2 gold contacts when you look at the cable jack. Phones use a 4 contact cable.

For that you have to enable auto answer in your printer. For that go to printer menu settings there you find option for enable auto answer in fax settings. then it automatic receive fax. Let me know if you need more assistance. Thanks.
You will have to set the fax to auto receive faxes. The "How To.." guide will be in the manual that came with the printer. During this set up you will put your fax number and the setting that is needed. Also i had issues from some customers that had a similar issue because they did not properly put the phone cord in the correct port in the fax, please read the diagram. this is very common, but easy to fix issue. most of the time ;)
An error occurred during transmission after one or more partial pages were sent. The sending machine was unable to restart the control channel connection(handshake) before sending more data. This error typically occurs when the receiving fax disconnects after receiving part of a page. It can also be caused if the receiving fax is using a fax format incompatible with the HP fax (usually during color faxing).
Solution
Try the fax at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved.
Ok the first thing you need to check is to make sure that you have auto answer turned on so that the machine will pick up when you are trying to receive.
There are alot of different factors that can effect your ability to receive a fax - see the link attached from hp's website and read about your specific setup. Things that can effect the fax would be voicemail, digital phone line, distinctive ring service, call waiting, the fax being plugged into a strong connection.
