I have a Windows Home Premiumuter which will not allow me to download my new Kobo Touch e-reader 6 inch without install programmes I do not want or have ask for.

Assuming the book is in .mobi format, use a program like Calibre to re-format the book to .epub format. (Open Calibre, then add the .mobi book to the Calibre library, then convert it to .epub) Then use this same program to send it to your Kobo.
(If the book is already in .epub format, you obviously don't need to re-format.)

Do you have the proper device driver installed on the computer?

Type demo off or demomodeoff in the search bar

Unfortunately, the batteries on Kobo were not designed to be replaced. If the batteries will no longer accept a charge, it is time for a new e-reader.
