Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 2, Bios A10. Laptop will not boot to OS.
Error message "STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}. The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a statu of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down."
Laptop does boot to safe mode.
Cannot rollback to previous good configuration.
Cannot complete system restore - after reboot get a message that system restore failed.
HD is listed in the BIOS setup.
Attempted to run repair from XP CD, and Setup "did not find any hard disk drives installed on your computer". After attempt, my HDD Password is Frozen. Pressing F9 Setup Defaults unfreezes HDD Password. After reboot, I go back to BIOS Setup, shift the CD drive to the top, restart, boot from CD, press R, no drive found, etc.
Boot system into safe mode. locate the icon for my computer. right click and go to properties. locate the computer name tab and select it. find the radio button for "change" and click it. rename the computer to something considerably shorter then what you have. the system cannot boot and complete the logon process if the computer name is longer than 200 "bytes"
Next step is remove hard drive and see if it is recognized in another computer. The Hard Drive could just be bad, but you need to rule out the motherboard drive controllers that could also be bad. Also try a known good drive in your system.
First Time I read this I somehow missed where you said you can boot into safe mode. Can you try to disable any start up programs or processess using msconfig from start-run menu. and then try rebooting. You may have a virus or malware causing this trouble.

It appears that your Windows Registry is corrupted. You can try to use a Registry repair utility like CCleane to fix it. If that doesn't work you will have to reload Windows OS (Operating System). For more info no this error code Google "c000021a".
Click on my computer.
Right Click on the C: drive.
Choose Properties.
Tools tab.
Error checking: Check now.
Choose automaticly fix file system errors.
Start, Yes, OK, Reboot the PC.
On boot a blue screen will launch and run for 5 - 20 minutes.
It wll reboot into windows when completed.
Thats known as a blue screen of death. you simply have to put in an operating system CD which is bootable (the one which you are currently using win xp vista or whatever) just boot through the cd ignore the first repair option and hit enter when the option for repairs appears for the second time just hit R and follow the options. you won't loose any data.
Hi. The STOP 0xC000021A error occurs when either Winlogon.exe or Csrss.exe
fails. When the Windows NT kernel detects that either of these
processes has stopped, it stops the system and raises the STOP
0xC000021A error. This error may have several causes. Among them are
the following:
Mismatched system files have been installed.
A Service Pack installation has failed.
A backup program that is used to restore a hard disk did not correctly restore files that may have been in use.
An incompatible third-party program has been installed.
Booting the computer to its Last known good configuration will resolved the issue. Please see procedure below:
Turn of the computer Keep on tapping F8 key the moment you press the power button You should be getting a advanced boot screen Select Last known good configuration from the selections then hit enter Computer should be booting up by now to windows

The first thing you should do is back up the HDD, Remove the HDD from your Laptop, you find the lid that opens the HDD access slot under the laptop or ask someone who knows how. if available there are aftermarket 2.5 HD enclosures that lets you install the 2.5 in.hdd of your laptop via a usb. you can plug the usb to a desktop PC and backup your files. then reformat your hdd. reinstall the hdd to your laptop. replace your memory ram which causes the blue screen with a new ram, reinstall the OS.
You'll need to setup the Acer laptop to boot from CD-ROM. Push either the F2 or F10 button when booting your laptop and it should bring-up the configuration management interface. Go through the options and confirm that Boot From CD-ROM is at the top of the list on bootable devices.
Next, you'll need your original Windows XP CD that came with the Laptop. Put it in the CD-ROM Drive and reboot your laptop. You will be given two options: 1) Re-install Windows or 2) Repair the existing Windows Installation. I recommend that you repair the existing Windows Installation as this will not destroy and data or device drivers that are install on the laptop.
Hi LMITC - the problem was not the computer name - it was actually only my first name anyway, and although I tried shortening that, it did not good.
Stanalichthbr - I think swapping out the hard drive is beyond what I am willing/able to do...
additional info - the Device Manager says the HD is working properly.
Did you sort your problem.
