Old Jaeger-lecoultre woman's wristwatch

Bought in Europe about 60 or so years ago.  Gold.  Winding stem on back.  Serial number A376312.  Needs repair but we don't know value of watch and are reluctant to just ship it to JLC without additional info, which they won't supply via email.  Any insights?

I would be happy to help. The problem is it is impossible to determine the value without seeing the watch(condtion is paramount). your best bet is to ship it Registered mail return receipt requested that way you have proof that it was received. I would think that that $5,000.00 insurance would most probably protect you. email me if you have any questions

I can't set the date on my watch - right now I have to scroll through the time setting mechanism hour by hour and day by day?

The date changes around midnight and you can usually advance the date by going past midnight until the date changes and then turning the watch backward to a time shortly before midnight and then winding it forward again.

How far back you need to go you will have to find by experiment but it should not be very far.

I cannot wind the watch, it will not wind up. What is the approx cost to repair.

Just the stem - is about a $40 repair.
If there is clockspring damage - you're looking at $75ish

Good morning. I am considering purchasing an antique omega watch: 14k white gold AA7442 562738 case serial number The movement is from the Omega watch co.. 17 jewels swiss. Serial number 23625437...

The repair to the winder may be only £30.00 but will the watch then work well.Parts for old Omegas can cost a premium and the watch may need a service.A service to an Omega by a good watchmaker will cost £170.00 ish and if it needs parts this will rise.
As to value if its 14ct on a bracelet the gold is worth about £12.00 a grm so if its 30g then the gold is £350/£400.00
Its hard to say what to pay without knowing if the watch works well,if it needs £200.00 spending on it the value is reduced to little more than the gold value so id weigh the watch work out a gold value and then a small amount.
If you need a repair try www.rolexrepairs.co.uk they offer a free estimate.

Problems with setting the date on this watch

mcdevito75 here, It does seem to be a hard way to set the date. I would imagine to you have stem and not buttons, Try this slip your fingernail just under the stem (winder) and lift the stem to it"s first position, now turn the stem either toward or away from you to change the date easily.

Vintage 1940. Doesn't run. Numbers on back of case illegible. Dirty, but intact. What have I got?

It might be worth having the back of the watch removed to see if there is anything engraved on the movement.

You might find that cleaning the watch gets is going, although the advice of the watch repairer should be asked for on this, as it might be very worn and in need of new parts which are unlikely to be available.

If it works and there is information on the movement, you might be able to get some information on the watch from the maker. Visit their web site (www.jaeger-lecoultre.com/) and make an inquiry, giving them all the information that you have.

An interesting problem!

Good luck.

Yes, but for an authentic Jaeger-lecoultre watch it will be very expensive.
