MAY BE REPLACE MAGNETRON

  • Gary Ainsworh
    Gary Ainsworh Jan 13, 2014

I have opened it up and found the fan had fallen off. I guess it must have been transported at a angle that has caused it to travel along the shaft and drop off.

SOURCE: vent fan runs intermittently, starts on and off regularily

I read in a different online review that whenever a room is above 70 the vent fan will start automatically for this microwave to cool it down. It is a built in feature and there is no way to turn it off.

SOURCE: microwave shut-off within 2-3 minutes

Why don't you return it? I think this is a common problem. We returned ours to Home Depot with no questions asked.

SOURCE: Microwave doesn't heat anything

Sounds like the magnetron has failed. This is the component that produces the microwaves that heats the food.

The cost of the magnetron is about 95% of the cost of a microwave oven. Most people don't, for this reason, replace the magnetron, they replace the whole oven which is probably what you will end up doing.

There is a possibility that the circuit that provides power to the magnetron is faulty and you need to take it apart, find the proper electrical leads and test them with a volt meter. To do this you have to remove it from its mounting and take it apart. It is a fairly lengthy process however.

Does not heat food.

Dont have many smegs where i am, but smeg is a decent unit, so i would think if there is no heat, look for a reset button (over temp. protection). possibly located at the back where the elements are wired.

Smeg Microwave SA-971C2

the door protection circuit needs attention, the door catches operate microswitches, but there is also a third which is a crowbar microswitch. if all three do not operate in the correct sequence then the safety switch or fuse will go.

After heating beverage, turned off microwave before the three minute cooking cycle was up. Closed door and did not push any button. Shorlty after, the air smeleed of burning rubber and sensor error went...

Please reply back with your brand and model number so we can help you.

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Let us know if the hard reset doesn't fix it.
