SOURCE: how to change my default browser because now my

Hi. Since you failed to indicate the operating system of your computer, I've shown steps for Windows XP,Windows Vista or Windows 7.

For Windows XP:

1. Open the Start Menu, and click Set Program Access and Defaults.
2. It will open the Add or Remove Programs window, with the Set Program Access and Default button selected on the left.

Below the "Choose a Configuration" header, click Custom and it will list all the default programs options it found for Default Web Browser, Default E-mail Program, and Default Media Player.

3. Under "Choose a default Web browser", tick Internet Explorer and make sure that all boxes are ticked for "Enable Access to this program."

For Windows Vista or 7, the steps above are almost the same but another way is to :

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. If a message is displayed asking if you want Internet Explorer to be your default browser, click Yes. That's all you need to do.
  3. If a message does not appear, go to the next step.
  4. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
  5. Click the Programs tab, and then click Make default.
  6. Click OK, and then close Internet Explorer.
  7. Internet Explorer is now the default web browser.

Hope this helps.

Here is what you do. In your search bar, there is a drop down arrow. Click on it, and it shows all the available search engines installed in your browser. To make google your default, simply select it, and that should effect the change.

Hope that was helpful?

In Google Chrome, click on the picture of a Wrench in the top right hand corner. The click on "Options". Near the bottom of the page will be your search options. Click on "Manage Search Engines" to select your default.

In Firefox, click on the Icon in the search box. Then click on "Manage Search Engines". From here you can move google to the top of the list, making it your default search engine. If for some reason you don't see google in the list, you can click on "Get more search engines" to locate and install it.

In new browsers, your set your preferred search engine. If you browser loads something like Search Conduit, your browser has been hacked. This typically happens when you install Google, Adobe, VLC Video Player, Handbrake Media Encoder. All these programs ask you to install extra search components. This especially problematic with VLC and Handbrake which are good tools. But, you cannot fly through the install otherwise you will install something you did not initially intend to. For Search Conduit or something similar search for that on a trusted search engine or your phone and follow the steps to remove.

For typical browsers, you can go into the options and specify who you want to manage your search business:

In Chrome, you'll find the search configuration by going into the browser settings, look under the "Search" section, and click on the "Manage Search Engines" button. Click "Make Default" button for the search engine you desire.

Internet Explorer has a search field that looks almost identical to the one in Firefox. Later versions, do this all from the URL bar. The dropdown for the search engine list in this case isn't next to the search engine icon, but instead it's to the right side of the field. This will show you a list of currently available search engines that you can set as your new default.

I want to install google as my default search engine

Wonderful but for which browser? I am guessing Internet Explorer? If so, look at the right top corner of the browser window, you will see a few icons that look like Home, Star and Gear. Click on the icon that looks like a Gear. That will open a list, from the list select "Manage add-ons". On the "Manage add-ons" window, from the Add-on Types list on the left, select "Search Providers". Now it should show you all installed search providers on the right hand side and the one that is currently used will be marked as "default". If Google was already installed but not default, you can click on the "Set as default" button on the right bottom corner of this window. If Google was not installed, then at the left bottom you will see couple of links, click on the one that reads "Find more search providers..."

When a new browser window pops open showing all available search providers, click on Google, then click on the button that reads "Add to Internet Explorer" button (orange color). After you click it, it will give you a pop-up confirmation box asking you to install or cancel, at this window, you also have the option box to check which would make it default search provider as well. After you are done, close out of all browser windows and re-launch Internet Explorer for changes to take effect.

I do not want to use google custom search but it always appear; I want the www.google.com website

This small trick will show you how to remove the Google Custom Search page and get the old Google webpage for queries.

  1. Click here
  2. The link will redirect you to the Google Advanced Search Settings page.
  3. Change the default keyword with the one you are looking for.
  4. At the end of the page click the Search button.

If this trick doesn't work try these other suggestions:

  • If you are logged in Google try to log out and make a new search.
  • Try to clear your Browser cache. On your browser, go to Settings, Privacy and clear your cache. Try with a new Search.
  • Go to http://www.google.com/cse/manage/all?hl=en, log in and delete or turn off Google Custom Search engines.
  • Do you have toolbars installed on your browser? Delete them, restart your computer and try to make a new search.
  • Scan your computer for viruses. Sometimes, malicious viruses install Google custom search engines on your browser to make you click on their ads.
